This team referral comes after the umpire chooses to play advantage from the body foul by the defender, and while the attacker manages to put a stick on the deflected ball the shot goes wide. The attackers appealed for the award of a penalty corner, but on review, the video umpire stayed with the original decision.
We are all faced with the question of whether to go back to the original foul and possibly give a team βtwo bites at the cherryβ or advantage has been properly given but not taken. One factor in your decision will be the relative skill level of the players and whether they have a good chance to capitalize. At most levels of play, this is a tremendously difficult scenario, but here, a much less clear decision informed by the umpireβs experience of top-level international hockey and his gut reaction in the moment.
