Why are “long barrier” plays where the defender uses their body to play the ball interpreted as intentional fouls? Find out in this #FeatureFriday video, where we highlight one of the hundreds of clips in the fhu3t Clip Library. Find them all: ๐ข๐ก๐ด๐
As the ball carrier comes into contact, the defender plants his feet, placing his stick and his back lower leg on the pitch. The long barrier he creates increases in area he's from which he's able to block the attacker's progress, but with the leg he can only block that space illegally. This is an intentional use of the body and once the ball strikes it, leads to a upgrade penalty corner being awarded.
