One area of our communication we often overlook is our “nothing there”, “play on”, or “advantage” signals.
Whether we're using our voice (good), our signals (better), or both in combination (sometimes best!), giving this information quickly is just as effective at managing the play as those sexy quick whistles.
When an attacker who has just fallen over a terrifically clean tackle can hear you say “NOPE!” before they've even hit the ground, and their teammates can see your arms up in that Y (not MCA π), they know what you're thinking and are much more likely to get on with the playβand so will their opposition.
Prepping your decision by anticipating contact and assessing the body shapes, distances, speeds and directionality of players will have you ready to add to the flow of the match before the tackle has even happened.
Whether you've got summer hockey or your league is in full swing, give this some intention and reap the benefits! β±οΈ
2. Watch.Hockey is back
The livestream hockey service we love to hate has returned like that restaurant on the busy downtown corner that never seems to get the foot traffic so it changes owners, comes out with a new menu and has a grand re-opening.
The annual sub (which excludes the 2026 World Cups) is decently priced so πββοΈ over and give them your money. I'm already starting to get DM questions about matches from 6 months ago as clearly folks have started to dive into the Pro League back catalogue. π
The best news though is that we're ready to get our Pro League Watch Parties on next weekend. Make sure you've got your 3T Green or Yellow membership all set and we'll see you in the server!
3. MCI2 + FHU = FHradios! π₯³
β
I'm so happy and proud to announce that Charles Hallows of MCI2 and I have reached an agreement for FHU to take over his long-standing and hugely successful umpire radios business.
It's an honour to be trusted with Charles' 14 years of history, service, and innovation in the umpiring communication space.
The web shop will open June 2, but here's a taster of the conversation Charles and I had when we signed the paperwork.
