What Up Wednesday. Keely Dunn, FHumpires. How are you all? I am, I'm here. , for those of you in the discord and in yellow, you are gonna be particularly already knowledgeable about this, that, uh, I have come down with a case of Covid. I don't know if I sound this way to you guys, but I, I, I sound in my own head like I'm underwater.
So I have a very handy screen. And when I'm, when I, when I do that, it's because I'm blowing my nose or I'm coughing or I'm falling over. Any of any one of those three things could be happening while we go to that . Oh my goodness. Um, yeah, it's been a little rough, but I figured that this might be the perfect kind of, uh, activity to do with y'all because I did this, I, I worked through the quiz two days ago.
So the theme for today is going to be, are you smarter than an umpire on Covid? So, let's see what happens. Let me get the music going. I'll say some quick hellos, but we have 30 questions to work through together now. If you are new to this whole jam, welcome.
Let me ring that for y'all. And, um, let's see. I'm gonna put this over here so I can see everything. And there is the quiz, and I think I messed this up. Okay. So I'm just gonna, if you haven't navigated in the discord to the link to do the actual quiz yourself, That's totally fine. You can either do the k and h b and, and, and click all of the, uh, the links there.
That's totally fine. You can, or, Oh boy, I was feeding back to myself there. And or you can go to the Discord server and you can click on the FSU third team answer form. Now, the reason I'm doing this is because I wanna be able to display our answers together. In order to do that, I need to like collect them.
So I'm not collecting email addresses. I'm not gonna do anything nefarious with them. I just, in order to be able to show responses, that's what Google requires is an email address. So you can put anything in there you want. I don't care. I'm, I'm not the boss of you. Um, and so I'm just editing the description right now, , to add the K and h b survey right there for whatever it's worth.
So it's now in the description, but it's also in the disor. If you need help with that, uh, there are lots of mods in here. There are mods in there in the discord. I'm pointing at my discord screen, and you can ask for help as well. So don't be shy. So this could, this could be interesting. So I worked my way through the K and HB version.
I did all the answers for them, and then I answered what I felt were the best answers on the Google form. So when you do this, you're gonna see what I said two days ago. And are you smarter than an umpire on covid? Let's find out. Um, and let's say hi to a few people. Where is my mouse? I don't know, honestly.
Uh, I thought I was stupid, uh, in February when I thought I got this before. But I do have a positive test now. I am actually like this is actually happening and man, is it happening. I am sitting here in a full sweat right now. Just I am ding and sweat. This is, this is rough. So everybody who said hello before the drop, before I said I'm on my way.
Hi to all of you. Martin's here. Shayne's here. Thank you for always coming out early. I really appreciate it. Um, here we go. Busy weekend ahead for Ian. He's got a couple games, an mo, all that sort of thing. Staying get to see you and Godders is here as well. Staying, I don't know if I just put your name up or not.
I'm, I, I apologize for the wait. Thank you for being patient. There were just some things I thought I had done and I hadn't. Um, and they cut off the water this morning in my building, so I had to have a shower, like really, really late. So I was scrambling. Do you care about these things? Absolutely not. Hi, Scott.
Candice. Hi. 4:00 AM Oh my gosh. You gonna The airport? Where you going? Candice? Let me know Jim. Hi, and thank you very much. Good to see you, Peter Gillespie. It's still gonna be a challenge to be, to beat this umpire on Covid. I'm not so sure.
I am really not sure about that. Um, and thank you very much, Taco. I appreciate it. Oh, thank. Oh good. See there's moderators. Oh, you guys, I'm so appreciative you're here. Thank you Chris. And yes, and yeah, Martin's here for, um, for translations. The good part that, that Rob did when Rob 10 cut, I believe organized this quiz the same way that he did the first one that we did, um, a few months ago now, which was a ton of fun by the way.
And. He, uh, what happened was all of the answers, except for ones that I changed in our Google form, they're, they're just all there. There's like 14 choices, which doesn't make it easy, but it just means that once you figure out that the Dutch translation of that word to English when it says benefit, actually means advantage.
Once you do that, everything's easy. Straft ball is penalty. Stroke penalty ball was, Oh, no, wait, How does it go again? I, Anyway, I should keep it simple, shouldn't I? Kia Aura, Steffan, good to have you. Um, yeah, it's, it's not good . I don't think it's good, but Hi, Gideon. Good to see professor and yes, uh, Martin team.
There's an English version to submit on the Discord. Yes, but that's, that's our, that's our third team. And anybody can do this. You just have to join the D iscord. See what I did there? I'm a jerk. Ah, you're off to Canberra for work. Excellent. Plunger coffee. Oh, plunger coffee. That's, I have plunger tea every day.
I'm a tea snob. There you go. Training's gonna be starting STR corner, right? Okay. Right. And then penalty STR Ball is penalty stroke. Wow. . Um, yeah, I don't think so. I don't think it is, but thank you. Okay, so, uh, this might work. Let's find out as I go into the first scene, I hope you're already, you probably have multiple browser tabs open.
This is gonna be chaos. Dogs and cats living together. Who knows? Kicking it off. Question one. Thank you very much, Dina, for the link to the Discord.
Question one. And that's when my teleprompter decides to go, Oh, see, we already have, we already have a problem.
Okay, let's go . It's fine, it's fine. We have two minutes to watch this. minutes to watch.
So some of you may remember this.
I covered this on a, a Ruley Tuesday, a Feature Friday, Something like that. Okay. So I'll keep playing another couple times. Feel free to start pitching in your stuff. Hi hockey moments. Good to see you heading.
So those of you who've gone back and will know that I particular opinion about this one. think for yourself. I just love how there's like indignation expressed on this. It's, it's just hilarious. Okay. Probably one more time. I only have two responses so far.
I just love it. Oh, that was good timing and that's time.
Okay. I guess I can. Okay, so I can keep playing this down here moment, but I'm gonna sound for me, you probably didn't hear that sound and so my apologies. So, so far, what do we have here? I gotta get everything outta the way cuz I can't see.
Okay, So this, this was my answer, The penalty corner and a card. And let me refresh again to see we only have two responses so far. So the reasoning behind this gang is that for me, I'm not certain whether the attacker has a likely possession of that ball. Things happen too quickly. It's gone a little far away.
I'm not quite sure. And so it's, it's, it's possible that he could have reached it, but I'm, I'm really not sure. He's also getting fouled outside by the defender there. It's difficult to do.
So Taco, if you go to the, the form submits as a whole. Oh. Oh dang. Okay. Well we're just gonna have to review it together later. That's what we're gonna have to do. That's okay. That's the way it.
I don't mind. I don't mind. I'll sort it out. Thank you very much, Chris, for letting me know. So Taco, what you just need to do is to open up the event that's right at the top of the discord. You open up the events and then there's a link when you open up that event. Here's the top secret fhu3t answer sheet.
You go there and then you can answer, enter your answers in there. The keeper plays without a stick says Taco. He didn't lose the stick by a player. Easy. Yes, absolutely. It's, it's, It could be easy, but what if you have a different opinion about that? Not sure. Okay. Let's move on to confess
science as a whole.
Okay. I have to be very coordinated here. And coordination is not the name of the game today. So question two.
All right, I'll just keep playing it.
I wish there was an auto loop on moving chrome, but there's not,
The sounds are never important for these, so you don't have to worry that you're missing out on the whistles or anything like that. Thank goodness.
So let me know. What we have is, we have a, a nice one on one move there. We've got a potential , we've got a potential action by the defender before the ball even gets to the goalkeeper here
and a second, and then the goalkeeper action. That's what we're focusing on here.
Okay, Maybe we'll just do one more time because we don't need to watch the full thing. Okay.
What do you got, Taco? You saw the left foot of the keeper, therefore a penalty, stroke and card cuz the ball was gone.
So we've had some discussions and I, I don't want this to color how you're gonna answer the rest of the quiz, but we did have discussions. Lately about when we're adding a card to a penalty stroke for a goalkeeper
because I'm wondering if there can ever be a time where a goalkeeper commits a penalty stroke worthy foul and doesn't give a card because if there's ever a time, this is it. So if I scroll to the next answer here, this was my answer, It's simply a penalty stroke. Okay. And it looks like for the two people who have answered so far that they went with that as well.
Okay? Because it's, it's a high impact, high risk of breaking down play. Was there anything especially egregious in it? Uh, was there anything danger in a dangerous in it? No. If this had been the, the 14th follow the game or you know, the goalkeeper been had already given up a penalty stroke, we're not looking at those compound situations cuz these are clips being shown to us in isolation.
So don't stress about that. We're just gonna do the best we can. Taking the clip in isolation, is this worthy of a card for me? No. Yeah. Card's too much for Chris here. Pandy stroke is enough and Steffan agrees with Chris. Okay. Good job. We are, we are moving on if I do that.
So we,
one's tough because we don't have a good angle from the initial TV broadcast. So you normally wouldn't sit here and, and you know what I, we don't get to make our decisions after we get to see video replays, but consider them in a shootout. You have a colleague who should be on the other side and able to watch all of these things.
And now think about how the high risk, high reward works out in a shootout and when and why might. Give a re reward and when you would not, I'm interested in what you think and if you see any foul at all. Okay, so Stijn sees a back stick. Yep. I see a back stick as well. But that's only one . That's only one foul
Okay, you watch it one more time. Look how long her stick is. Okay. You can't see anything from that angle there. Yep. Stroke for the back of the stick. We're seeing that.
Okay, More comments coming in here, Rachel backstick. And cover the attacker stick with the glove. There is interference with the attacker stick right there with the glove. Okay, so that's another one. So there's both attempts to pin the ball to the four or pin the stick, whatever. Good to see you, Jim.
Hopefully we'll see you soon. Thank you for your, your well wishes and definitely a penalty stroke. Yep. And that's, that's what I went with this. Um, I don't think this is an instance where you can say that the goalkeeper tripped and, and didn't do anything to put themselves in the position of risking to commit that foul.
If they had, if literally it was just a complete accident, that's when you go for retake in these situations. But particularly at this level, you're looking for a penalty stroke, I think. Yep. Interfering with the stick with the glove too. Yeah. Stroke for three reasons. Okay. Onto number four.
Okay. I'll just play this one a few times.
There's nothing unique about this. It is something that's, uh, uh, happens, uh, every 20 or 30. This is, the delay on YouTube is really disconcerting. Because I'm sitting here going, Okay, is anybody gonna answer? And of course you are and you have answered. It's just that it takes even, even on low latency, it takes about 15 seconds for this to come to me.
So there you go. So we've got Taco asking for a play on no foul, nothing for Adam Swann. Good to see Adam and Stijn has a plate on. So I wonder if I can,
this might be risky, but there we go. We're just gonna move because there's some that are gonna take a lot longer than this.
Okay. And yes, for me it's a play on no foul for sure. And some of these questions obviously are gonna be, you know, very easy. But still, when you go into a situation or you're faced with a scenario and you expect there to be a follow, you expect something to be brought to your attention. Sometimes you look for things that aren't there and you misremember and you think about, oh, back in the nineties, you know, goalkeepers couldn't do things like that because she put some extra force onto the ball and things like that.
Steffan, it's a play on deflection. So no aerial, aerial doesn't apply. Absolutely. That's very true. And it's a nice save. Good stuff guys. Okay. Five.
Okay. This is a fun one. I should have created a loop of all these videos.
Okay, so we've got blue defending, orange is attacking, just in case you weren't sure. Orange, red, like, I don't know. I can't smell. Nevermind seeing. So don't ask for the these things.
Okay. It's a 23 for Stijn. I'll keep playing it a few more times. Taco agrees. It's a 23 meter restart, no touch. It's a 23, 23 meter. Dutchy. McDutch. Good to see you friend. He's coming in with the, the penalty corner coming in hot. Steffan's coming in hot. Okay. Oh, hi Ben. I'm glad you're here.
Yeah, that's what I'm doing because everybody's seen it. Orange and green. God damn it. Taco. I'm trying here. I'm just trying.
And what was my answer? I went with a penalty corner for intentionally playing the ball off the end line. Now, a 23 meter restart isn't a bad decision. However, what I don't like about this situation is the attacker. There's an attacker right there who's ready to play the ball. The goalkeeper is facing back towards their goal, their, their, their goal line.
So it might seem a little harsh, but that's the feeling. I would've gone with this right away.
Yep. Ian would've gone with a penalty corner. It looks like a match between Rhonda and Tilburg. Thank you. It's a 23 for Chris. Roger wants a pen- penalty corner. Okay. So we, we've got some, we've got some, some differences in opinion here, which is, Which is good. She tries to football it and bounces off more.
It's a bit harsh maybe. Yep. Yeah, I can understand that. But I think there's the expectation that there's nowhere else that this ball can go. If she kicks towards the goal, she might be trying to football it. But you mean football like over the goal, like punt it? No, no. It's just, it's just too much. If she had, if she had been facing that back line and then tried to sweep the ball this way with her stick, for example, you know,
if she had flattened herself, dove, that's what I'm, that's the word I'm looking for. If she do, if she had dove and tried to sweep the ball and then it had gone off the end line, but there was a motion towards the sideline, I would've been okay with it. Hmm. Maybe. I don't know. And Peter finds the PC harsh.
Yep. That's okay. But if we're looking for, Consistency with the body language of the player and what they're attempting to do in the moment. And, you know, if, if this happens at a more junior level of play, you're gonna construe things differently and not, I'm not saying this is hoof class, it's not, but it's a, it's a good level of play and that goalkeeper is facing that back line.
So there you go. Hi Tristan. Nice to see you. I think this might be the first time we've seen you. Hi. I have Covid and I'm really stupid right now. I just wanted you to know that. Okay. This is the way it goes. Okay. Action. Okay, we're on number six.
Oops. I'm not ready. I'm not ready. It's hard because they didn't, they didn't, uh,
they didn't number these, so I'm trying to make sure I don't screw it up. Hi Matt. Don't worry, you can catch up. You just have to, you, you just have to look at the quiz on your own. Maybe
I'm just gonna sit here and dance. It's good for me.
That's a big swing. Dutchie McDo to go from a PC to a car to a play on. Do we feel a little, do we feel one way or the other here? Because I think you kind of have to pick one of those two extremes, especially if you're looking at a PC and a card.
Tacker wasn't in possession. Yeah. Yes, they, The umpire is ready. Chris. That's a good point. The umpire is ready with the whistle in their mouth, and that's what I would be doing too. I would actually have my whistle in my mouth sooner than that.
And for me, my answer on this one was a play on no foul. Okay. Uh, Stijn agreed with that one, that the attacker was not in possession and not in likely possession of the ball either. I just don't feel that she was prevented from getting to the ball. And yes, there was a, but I mean, for every attempted tackle and every little slide like that, if we're gonna get our shirts in a knot for something that small and be giving out cards for intimidation for that, that is, yeah.
Pretty hardcore. Uh, 23 or 16, depending who came off. I can't see. Okay. And that's why we went with a play on. So actually if you answered, if you ended up answering the goalkeeper didn't touch it, so it would've been a 15 meter restart if keeper touched it. 23, otherwise. 15. How do you mix your yards like that and your meters?
Come on, Steffan and your gut feel to pc Because why and because of the obstruction.
And if so, why not a penalty stroke
is what I'd be asking. Feel free to note down the questions that you think. I really want to talk about this more because in the Discord server we're gonna have, uh, we have a, a forum set up, especially for this, where we can go through these questions in much more detail and discuss the ones that we think are more interesting.
So that's another bonus of the Discord servers that you're gonna be able to come in and follow up on some of these questions for us. So I hope we're on number seven. Let's find out. , I have no idea.
Corner over and again. So that's better. And now c, just to the chart to drive the baseline cre all the way. And I understand that Dutchie, but what did they do intentionally? They didn't cause any disadvantage. So just because they, you know, on zone that's just not intimidating. I'm sorry, but just down that cool up again.
It's not a tea party. That's better. give it another couple looks.
Notes people. Yeah, people wanna still talk about this, so let's go in the Discord on this one. I agree that's very slight contact. Taco wants a free hit out for the keeper on this one. Play on for Ben. Let's play it just another time. Play on for Adam.
Tristan, hi, wants to play on, play on for Stijn. Absolutely. Or if we hit the keeper. Okay. Is the keeper disadvantage from continuing to play at this moment?
Okay. I, I can, I can see if I can see the free hit out.
And I think here, Yeah, Ben's, Ben's got the explanation here if the attacker ended up on top, but I don't, I don't think they're hugely impacted on this one. Sorry. And let me get this one. I mean, I, I think
I think she's brushing that one off pretty easily, so we can just play that on in that instance. Good stuff. Wait, that's seven. Okay.
This is a good one.
I like this one a lot.
I don't wanna say anything cuz I don't wanna allude to what my, uh, answer is here for a split second. Come on. Dutchie, you started off strong. I need you to pick up. Pick it up.
Mm, I think they're fine. Rachel's on her second glass. Oops. I gotta keep this running.
Okay. Matt's got a great keeping play on. Tristan wants a clean tackle play on. It's a penalty stroke for Stijn.
Chris wants to play on, but you wanna stop the free Hit defense and check if everybody's okay. That's fair too,
Ben. This looks bad. And wearing pads and it's expected to be there cleanly. Got the ball play on or stop time and check up the eye attackers. All right. Came out slowly, not reckless and control the whole time.
And for me, I agree that this is a, this is a play on. Stop time for foul. The defender is able to get her stick in and tap the ball away where the attacker isn't expecting it to be. The attacker never changes her running line. She runs straight at the keeper. The keeper is not moving out of their running line either, and they are entitled to play this ball.
The attacker has to have control over their body and they do not in this situation. So for me, this is a play on or a free hit. Your son adds the card. I don't see the foul at at all Stijn. I, I, I don't know what else. Think about watch the, watch the keeper. Don't watch anybody else. Watch the keeper. Is there anything else the keeper could have done while still contacting the ball that wouldn't have involved the attacker colliding with her?
There's no way. There's nothing else the keeper could have done. It's a clean touch on the ball. Roger says, uh, and is allowed, the key keeper's allowed to go to the ground. I mean, the keeper doesn't even go to the ground yet. , they're, they're standing right there. Um, a PC deliberate for it. Hang on. Hockey Moments.
Okay. You're probably on a different question.
Oh, for five? Oh yes. Okay. Sorry. It's gonna take me a little while. You might have been late, so I'm a little fuzzy. And you understand that thinking. Okay. She runs through the keeper. That's why you give the free hit to make it clear it's an incorrect play by the attacker.
Yep. Okay. Yeah. I see. I see what you mean. Remember, are you smarter than an umpire on covid? That's the criterion we're holding ourselves to today. That's the standard. And Dutchie. McDutch in this question and only this one. You are definitely smarter than umpire on Covid. I appreciate that. Oh goodness. Okay.
Which number was that? That was eight. Okay. Nine. We're doing pretty good right here is good. That outside of it. Spoon.
Okay. So what is the decision here? What's the best decision on this play?
Oh boy, there is my cursor,
And you already got better too today. Thank you.
Okay. Taco's spitting out the advantage he's getting right on this one.
Always, always, always, when our positioning is not where we would ideally like to be. It leads to situations. This isn't a particularly fast break, so I'm not sure. I think, I think the umpire hears of two minds doesn't know whether they're gonna keep running or not keep running
and because of the angle
play on foul. Well, he can't call a goal. So Adam, the problem with this one is that he's blown the whistle before the ball's gone in,
unfortunately.
So,
And there we go. So there's, there was a couple of correct answers on this one, because I can understand, um, why you would either go with complete play on, because at that moment, at the moment that the attacker touches the ball over his head, there is no danger. However, if that attacker had missed the ball and the ball continued, it would've dropped to two opposing players and it would've been a dangerous situation.
So you could technically describe this as advantage rather than a play on situation. But yes, it would've been nice if this had gone continued to play
because of what happened afterwards. So, Ben, advantage hold the whistle. Toll control, no danger. Attackers allowed to bite the wall safely. Yep. Absolutely. Good job, everybody. Some of these are kind of grapefruits. They're a little soft. They're a little, they're a little big. They're, they're so big you can just hit them outta the park.
That's, that's what a grapefruit is. Sorry. It's an American thing.
No, this is one. I'm gonna have to, I'm gonna have to run this one a few times.
Oops. And I keep forgetting to run this one.
Okay. Hopefully you've all had lots of looks at it. Let me know what you think.
Oh, oh my God. Look at all those replies that I couldn't see. Goal advantage. Hmm. Most of our level, you'd want to give the PC to get proper advantage. I'm so sorry. Um, I don't know if that was Raps cuz it was South Africa and I don't think that was the series in South Africa. I think it was somebody else.
Was there any danger? There wasn't any danger there. Godders advantage. Okay, so we're onto, we're onto 10. Sorry guys. I,
eh.
Keeper keeps line. No foul. Play on, play on for Tristan. I'll play it another couple times cuz we got 14 seconds. Play on, play on also this team. I know, right? I have a feeling that a lot of these clips were collected, you know, on the same weekend.
Was there a back stick?
Let's see. Uh, no, she didn't touch it there, godders, she kind of swiped and just kind of missed it. So for me that was a play on Noel. Okay. No, no disadvantage occurred. The, there was a mild amount of contact, but nothing that stopped the goalkeeper from, or stopped the attacker from being able to continue to.
and
lots of good opportunities at the ball. That ball could have gone on the net. Who knows? No, from from what I can see gang. And if, if you see something different, you know, do let me know. But she takes a swipe, but the ball doesn't change direction. So there's that swipe, but the ball is still the same way.
There's no contact. Ah, so the, this orange team posts every weekend for their matches. Mm. That's why. Well, thank you very much. Orange team, whoever they are, That's not Tiller cuz Till's blue. Right. So that's, that's somebody else. Somebody will tell me the name of that team and then post a link in the Discord so that we can go watch their games.
Warren, thank you very much. Excellent. Okay.
- We are a third of the way through. We're doing awesome.
Oh,
the timer's going,
Oh shoot. It wants me to do all of these. Okay. I'm just…
sorry Rob, I'm ruining my. Because I don't, I forgot that I have to do this in order to do the quiz live Now. I could have downloaded every video.
I, I, I could have just, yeah, downloaded every video and, and pulled it outta context, but I didn't think that was fair. So I didn't, But now I feel bad. Okay. And then
Park,
this was the subject of a What Up Wednesday.
What Up Wednesday? Do you remember when we talked about this play? It was really interesting. Okay.
I know. I'm such a jerk. I gotta tell Rob to ignore this.
I hope it looks like it's, it's a joke answer because there's not a single, Oops, I shouldn't say that. There's likely not.
What does B d P mean? Taco B D P B.
Okay. So for me, the correct answer is a penalty stroke and a card. So contrast this with one of the plays that we were looking at earlier where the goalkeeper sticks out her toe and trips the goalkeeper. This is two hands catching the leg, wiping out the attacker. There's that extra love layer of physicality that I think needs to be addressed with a card.
I'll break down a play. I, I knew that, uh, obviously keeper stationary then moves to obstruct. Yes, the keeper misses the ball. The attacker is moving around. That's the difference. Again, attacker is going away from the goal keeper.
Okay. Moves the ball and moves her body in another direction. And the goalkeeper. Like this, this head on angle is just so good to see,
and not that that's definitive, but there's zero contact with the ball and all contacts with the legs. It's not hard to see Tristan, but that's okay. It doesn't look at the keeper does it gets contact with the ball either, even if she didn't, even if she did make contact with the ball, that's not the sole determining factor.
Okay? Uh, no penalty stroke, no card, no high risk, high reward. This is absolutely spot on. Penalty stroke and card attacker drags the ball away and the keepers trying to go for the ball, but the contact breaks. The play and the collisions. Make a stroke and a yell. Maybe 10. I don't know. I, It doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter. We're, we're not, we're not worried about, about that. Okay. 12. How we doing for time? Can somebody tell me this? I can't look away. I can't look away from, from the screen. 12. Oh, we're coming up to coming up to one. It's been worse.
Thank you, Rachel. Okay, so Roger, is this for number 12? I think it might be, yes. 12. Thank you guys for hanging on this. Ben wants a play on
Stijn. Wants a play on Taco wants a play on Dutchie. McDo wants a play on Noel Dutchie. You're getting better.
Yeah. Taco's on 12. Does the umpire play on? Definite penalty strokes says and we, we don't, we don't mind what happens. What makes this a definite penalty stroke for you, Godders?
All ball says Roland Alston. Roland Alston, welcome to the show. Good to see you. You might be new.
Play on for Steffan.
I'll keep playing this one cuz. Cuz when Godders says something, I pay attention.
Rachel's got a miss of the ball, but the player's not control. Not sure needs to think longer. Okay. I like how you talk about yourself in the third P. The third part person. You're like, Rachel needs to think longer. For Chris, it was a 50-50
and I'll bring that up. Okay. Just keep playing that a little bit. The goalkeeper plays the ball and has stopped at the moment of contact. Okay. 50 50 for Chris now. Now Steve's on a play on. Okay, thanks Godders. Yep. I agree. Those 50-50s can be very tricky. And again, take your focus to the goalkeeper, take note of their line and where they are moving to the ball and what the attacker then, I mean the attacker is literally, she even over overruns the ball.
She could've gotten her stick on the ball and didn't she just, she's just kind of running for S'S and G's. Shits and giggles. Ex keeper. Play on Always good. Roger. Play on is no excessive movement. Yep. Any, and you just, you have to allow goalkeepers the opportunity to. The opposition to a 50-50 ball. And because they can play it with their body, they are going to be likely down on the ground.
They're using their body in or in a legal way. And if that had been a field player, look at it this way, just imagine that had been a field player running to a 50 50 ball, what would've happened? Exactly the same thing. And she would've gone over the stick of the defender and she just didn't have any control whatsoever.
So there you go. That was number 12.
We talked about this, uh, What Up Wednesday?
It's my made up What Up Wednesday song. We talked about this. Zwicker's really, really mad for no reason.
Paco's not listening. I actually, I um, I think I alluded to this in a post on the Discord server, and I got the teams wrong. I, I got the teams right except I said it was Ruhr jumping over, but it was actually this one, Hertzberger.
And I remember when we talked about it, I said the interesting part is that for a guy of Hertzberger's skill and experience and speed, he doesn't really do much to try to get over the goalkeeper here, but.
Let's see. Penalty stroke, and no card for Roland. Is this coming up? I don't know. Yes it is. There we go. As requested says, Taco penalty stroke. Penalty stroke. For Stijn, penalty stroke and intentional foul to prevent a goal scored as a card. Dutchy, No. Nope. Not seeing that one. See, you're so close. You're so close.
Don't go hunting. Don't go hunting for things that haven't happened yet. Ruhr is right there. There are other players in the vicinity and we're not the action, the stopping of a probable goal that like it actually has to be a probable goal. It has to be going towards the goal. That is not going towards the goal.
He's lifting it over the goalkeeper and then so many other things have to happen before that ball goes into the goal. So that is a hunt.
Tristan, no card. Penalty stroke and a card for Ben.
Um,
I mean, on the face of it, no. I, I just, I I don't see the need for a card there. The straight line by the goalkeeper maybe mitigates the card for you. So just a penalty stroke. Yep. That's, that's good rationale, Chris. I like that. Thank you for explaining that for me. Agreed. Definite penalty stroke and no card.
Clever play by the forward. Yes, absolutely. He knew. And if you listen to the commentators as they're talking like Simon's talking and is like, yep, that's, that's an experienced forward, who knows. What requires a card. So na, nice to see you. What we're looking for to give that extra umph. Now we're taking all of these plays in isolation, so we don't know if there have been other fouls earlier in the game, other breakdowns that we are taking into account on the control elevator going up and down.
But we're looking for an extra physicality in this. Okay. Because we're not taking any game context. We're just taking that particular clip. Is there extra physicality? So there was one earlier now that, I don't know if you were here where there was an absolute. You know, goalkeeper used her arms to stop the legs of the attacker and that, that's definitely the card.
Mm. He knew. He knew he was there. Would the attacker have gotten the ball? Yeah, probably. Oh, and now she's gone to that. Okay. That was
Okay. This one.
This is a good one. We just see the replay angle.
There's a lot of McFerran things in here. I feel bad.
Is that McFerran? It looks like McFarren on the end of there.
Are we on 14? We are on 14. Sorry, everybody.
Let me do that. And there's a reason for it. Okay, now we're on 14. Thank you very much. Taco.
FRee hit for the keeper.
Play on Steffan. Nope. Of all the things it's not a play on. Try again.
Watch the attackers or watch the goalkeeper stick.
You think you might consider a retake here. High risk, huh? Is she in full control of the movement of her stick at that moment? Try again, Chris. Keep her moving. Stick into the place where the player is stepping. Unin- all unintentional. Replay the shuffle. Tristan. We do not use the S word here. Because that is an incorrect term.
It has no place in hockey. It is a shootout. It is a shootout attempt. It is a shootout. That's it.
Free hit defense. Interfere with keeper, you know, says Ben Burton. I'm gonna agree with Taco. Penalty stroke no card as the keeper played at the ball but didn't get it, and created the foul using their stick. Roland! Retake penalty stroke. Not within reach of the ball. Okay, we're almost there. I'll get this rolling.
It's okay. Tristan, just one stern word and you'll know. It's a penalty stroke. This is not a retake. She goes for a swipe of the ball. When she misses, she takes the chance. She's got full control of her stick and that is the result. High risk. High risk. High penalty. Okay.
Isn't she allowed to place a stick wherever she wants and the attacker shouldn't step on it if she, if she had gotten the ball. But she doesn't get the ball. The attacker moves the ball away from her stick. Would you call this, if this happened anywhere else in the pitch, would you not call this as a, at least as a free hit against that defender anywhere else in the pitch?
Absolutely. You would. If she had gotten the ball, Her stick is where it should be, and the attacker's foot is where it shouldn't be. And you go the other way. But she misses the ball entirely cuz the attacker's good. Does the shootout change this then? It does, it does change it because it's, it's a high stakes environment.
It's a one on one with a goalkeeper. It's, It is the ultimate, high risk, high reward situation. Are you allowed to disagree? Absolutely. You are allowed to be wrong as much as you want. Matt, What exact rule is which?
Stick interference. If you're looking for the, if you're looking for a rule about the goalkeepers stick being interfered with it's, it's a stick interference. It's like 9 1, 9 2. I don't know,
but I remember when we talked about this, there was a lot of disagreement at the time as well, so I'm not surprised that this is a contentious one. So we can revisit this one in the server again. Okay, so this should be 15. Now, if I haven't screwed that up,
Keeper stops the ball and then?
It's interfering with the, uh, it's interfering with the bo the, the body of another player. It's the same rule. Just flip to the other player. If you're looking for an explicit rule that says you're not allowed to put your stick under the feet of another player, that doesn't exist. But general interference does.
Got lots of PCs coming in here now. PC from Ben Burton
Roland wants a penalty corner, keeper put the ball in a dangerous place. Penalty corner for Taco. Too many people about below for the danger. Yep. So we don't need to see this one much more, I don't think. Cuz I think you're all on that one. Even though the ball does drop in a place where the attacker is wishing that she could play it from, it's not a, uh, it's, it's not a safe place in order to play that ball.
The defender or the attacker is reaching over the goalkeeper and it's pretty, you know, it's, it's, it's not, She can't, she can't play that ball safely either. So the quick whistle for Aleesha is good. And by the way, Aleesha Unka is back on the scene. She has come back out of retirement, so that's very exciting.
She's an excellent, excellent umpire. Blow quickly can't risk an advantage as it's too dangerous for Gideon. Absolutely. And we agree with Rich. Matt, but the ball's dropping on the goalkeeper's head. So that's just like the one last week, Matt, where we had the, the, the young players and the, the ball was lobbed trying to be a shot at goal, not a pass.
And the defender in the attack were right there. And the, and the sticks were right around the defender's head in that situation. That's not a situation where you can play.
Sticks near heads. Oh, I'm sorry if I, if I mised your name, My apologies. Um, yep.
Okay. So,
Oh good. It wasn't me.
As long as I'm not in trouble from Rachel. Okay. Because, I like Rachel and I don't wanna be in trouble with her. Okay.
We are on question 16. Rolling right along one 15. We're doing okay.
Hi Alistair! As discussed in the KNHB webinar and the consensus was that the former, that was questioned 15 and it should account as a goal that is with umpire Coen van Bunge. Uh, my opinion on that is that it's the incorrect call.
Thanks for asking.
The sticks around the heads is the problem. If that ball had been falling in a different zone, then you can play on and you can count the goal, end of story. That was pretty, pretty clear.
Okay. Penalty, stroke and a card. Penalty stroke and a card. Everyone wants a card for this one. Roland.
Tristan, possibly card, Step on penalty, stroke and card green. Okay, Maybe get in, wants a card. All right, I'll get this playing again, we're gonna get to our time.
I went with the penalty stroke only, but I can see the argument for a card. Absolutely.
It's, it's a bit rigorous. It's a bit, a lot. I think the reason that I, I wouldn't hear is just because it's quarter two and, and that sort of thing. And I think there's a lot of, um.
You know, the, the, the player falls very effectively.
They're, they're not falling outta control. They're, they're just fine. And so when I'm looking for that extra physicality, am I reacting to how the player falls and rolls over their back? Or am I actually reacting to the actions of the goalkeeper? And that's just what I would caution you with is don't leap too soon to the card in a situation like this.
Don't be, don't be pulled into it by the actions of the attackers. Okay. That's 16, 17.
You guys are gonna hate me by the end of this.
You're welcome, Alistair. I appreciate it. I appreciate you bringing these perspectives and, and keep letting me know. It's, it's interesting and, and what you have to, to recognize is that that's, that's two people at, you know, high levels who disagree with each other. And I bet if you asked another couple of FIH people about that particular clip, Alistair, we would, we would still be disagreeing about it.
So
the point being, can we rest on principles to explain why it is that we don't, what our position is? And for me, the ball falling around people's heads is why you don't let that play. So I don't, I don't hear another logic-based reason other than it was, it was nice. And we want goals.
Card for Rachel. Penalty stroke for Godders. You want a card? This one, straight through the back, not entitled to play the ball this time. Penalty stroke. No card started to engage before the body turned. You think? Okay, I'll just ignore you. Um, that second movement of the goalkeepers, like the extra physicality,
No, sorry. Sorry, stijn.
The player's allow- is entitled to, to receive that ball. She's there first. She's, she's in that space. Okay. Um, Taco penalty stroke in a card. Penalty stroke in a card from many. Yes. And that's what I asked for was a penalty stroke in a card. I think I should have. Are we on 16? Are we on 17? Nope. It should be a card now.
Now that, now that I see that again, whatever my answer was on the penalty stroke, it's the extra push in the back. It's the ankle being broken. If you'd gone either way, I'm fine. Carding is just so difficult if you're not in the game. It's, it really is difficult when it comes to the goalkeepers. It's the push for Steffan.
That is totally fair. The keeper stick doesn't make contact. Penalty stroke. Um, let's see. Steffan's on 18 already.
Okay. Let's see. . I'm like, Wait a minute. Am I on the wrong number? But I don't think I am. So let's go to 18 now.
Gideon wanted the card on the last one too. I think that's right. I think that's right. I'm allowed to change my mind occasionally.
There are multiple correct answers for this one, by the way. Because we can't see where the ball is, and that's the problem. If this is a results-oriented quiz, we don't know. We don't know if the ball's even in the circle at this moment, which it makes it very difficult.
Hard to say, Nantha. Hard to say. Well, without being in the game, we don't know. And that's why the quiz doesn't really go into that. Okay. 20 more seconds on this one.
You're lost. 18, free hit for the goal keeper. Well, yep. Sorry. It's my, I, I'm probably not helping the confusion here at all. This is probably all me. Free hit defense. Stijn, a bully. Okay.
Roland wants a card for the goalkeeper, and that was actually an answer that somebody submitted. Bully and a card to the keeper for diving, and I don't think that that's fair at all. Yeah, she rolls around a little bit, but she does get pushed. Okay. The thing is that she's focused on the ball. You can see, you can see her.
She's not seeing that attacker coming towards her. She's not looking that way.
She is caught off balance on this one.
And she knocks her head on the ground. So for her to, to, to, I mean, the roll might be a bit, but she knocked her head on the ground. And if you've ever fallen on the ground and knocked your head like that, like look, it bounces. That's significant. She's not faking that. So actually, I'll fight you if you say that
that's, that the, that the goalkeeper's doing something wrong there. So for me, if the ball is not… There's no disadvantage to a player, there's no disadvantage to the goalkeeper because the ball's nowhere near the circle. Then you stop time, it's gonna be a bully. And for me, there's a card for the attacker on that one.
That's probably just a quick green card. Get off the pitch. Um, you could play advantage potentially if the defending team has possession of the ball and then you come back to the card. It could be a free hit for the goalkeeper if you feel that the goalkeeper was disadvantaged, not able to play free hit for the goalkeeper and a card to the attacker.
But there ha, I, I think there has to be a card there. That's, that's me. Okay.
Should be a nice quick one for us. Come on Dutchy, come on. I'm cheering for you on this one.
You got this. It just comes naturally to me.
guys. Now I'm seeing your comments. Wow. Okay.
Y'all might be watching too much football. Okay. Don't judge based on the culture expectations that you set in other sports where all those stopping myself from swearing, all those players are play acting.
Play on, play on, play on.
I'm calling it.
Or advantage from Taco. I agree. It's a play on nice and easy. We had to, we got to, we had to get to some consensus again after that highly divisive goalkeeper, uh, getting pushed. Play safe, save PC for the foot. Yep, absolutely. And I guess it's the, uh, the question that's, that's asked is what do you think of the goalkeeper save sort of thing.
So there you go, 20.
Aerial coming in. The goalkeeper slash aerial quiz.
Now just because it's Canada, doesn't mean you should be giving any particular foul. No pressure on you whatsoever. This is question 20.
Roland, PC, Dutchy, PC. Ah, she had a concussion device on. Look at that Stijn. PC Taco, PC 20, PC. Penalty stroke, intentional foul, says Ben.
Roland wants a possible card for the deliberate foul. If you do, then Roland, you're not awarding a PC as well. Okay? If you award a personal penalty, you must be awarding the more severe team penalty as well. They, FIH has been very clear in the briefing. I don't believe in that mentality, but that's what they've asked for.
PC. Hi Mike. You made it and yeah, I went with a penalty corner on this one. Um, it's cl- it's bordering, but remember we're looking for the impact of the foul. For me. I still weigh that into the equation and the chances of high success on this attacking play aren't assured. But the, but you know, but the, the foul is clear.
The goalkeeper is looking at the ball in the air, not looking at the player. So they know where the player is at the moment, but then they're tracking the ball. So I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt because of that. Okay. That's, that's why getting in the modern era of penalty stroke that were inside the 23 meters, you would give a penalty corner.
If you, if you would, then you're absolutely right. Chris wants a penalty stroke for it. Uh, might start a fight. Yeah. Too soon. Too soon, Steffan. Too soon. I'm just kidding. Yeah. You had a briefing that this is never a penalty stroke. Is that different outside of the national or outside of the Netherlands? I don't know what you're doing inside the Netherlands,
sometimes, Dutchy, I wouldn't say never, but that's my instinct. The goalkeeper must see the players there. Well,
uh, the goalkeepers and and on this team are crazy. They, they do weird things. So there you go. Okay. I can see the argument for penalty stroke. You guys. It, it's, Yep. Just like Ian saying there. If it's intentional, you must also give a card. No, that's not what I mean. But if you give a card, it must be intentional.
Okay. It's not. Let's not get the, the logic twisted about.
Uh, so Chris, you've been told to save the penalty stroke for absolutely clear. No argument ones. Yeah. And I think that's fair. I I I think that's the right, um, but that's, yeah, I, I don't wanna get too far down that road because we know that that's not the criterion cuz it's an unintentional foul that stops a probable goal penalty stroke.
That's a different criterion than what we're applying here. But what I'm looking at is the impact, high risk, high reward. So what is the actual impact on the play? Okay. You'll stick with your original answer, but you may have been swayed. Yeah, I mean I'm swaying and not just cuz of the covid, kids. Nope.
Lack of awareness is not a defence. Well it's, but it kind of is. Uh, aerial balls are not easy for anybody. I mean, if we as umpires are asking for forbearance on being able to track them in the air, seeing the players on the ground, seeing the lift, seeing the landing area, seeing the receivers and who's where, at what point, and with 20 meters left as the ball's falling, being able to make an assessment at that point and then judging a potential interception, I think we can give a little grace to the players as,
um, that they reach the ball.
Um, isn't that deliberate compared with the Phil Roper yellow in the Commonwealth for encroaching on the following area? I'll have to look, I'll have to look for that particular play. I'd look for the body language of the players and their awareness of who's, who's what, who's where. Okay, But I understand.
Oops. Nope. Not that one. This one,
this one.
Oh, shoot.
I have to do that thing again.
You think I would've learned my lesson? Have, have we met yet? How much of this can I blame on Covid? So I've been, I've been in bed since Saturday and I, I took a shower today. You guys will be very proud of me. I took a shower and I've not taken any meds for days because I'm tired of feeling, Oh wait, that's not the right one anyway.
What do you mean? Go to the first error there. Okay, I got it. I got it. We're good. Okay, so I have to hit this again.
See, I'm nice. Here we go. 21.
Now,
Okay, this is where I track the difference with the goalkeeper's awareness of where the player is. Do you get it?
Same team. Same team on defense. Not that that matters. And the extras. If Alistair's still here, I'd like to hear if Coen had any comments about this. Cuz this was his, his call. Covid just needs sleep. Oh good. Do I get to have a nap? Can I go have a nap after this? I gotta record a podcast at five. Oh my gosh. I don't know if I can do it. More boys.
I know I'm such a jerk.
I'm, Yeah, it's definitely there. Penalty, stroke and yellow card for the utter disregard for safety penalty. Stroke in a card 21 can't be argued. I'm sure that's what Stijn meant. Penalty stroke and a card. Good. You guys are all on the right track. And to be fair, this was at the Hockey World League, um, in, I think this was the Lee Valley one.
Yeah. So this is 2017, aerials and things like that. So I'm, I'm trying to, trying to give Coen a little, a little grace here. Goalkeeper awareness. Um, no, it's not okay to wipe out the player that's, I know, you know, I'm not saying that. Um, Yeah, but he only gave a penalty corner in this, so, uh, I'm, I'm afraid that was probably a misinterpretation there.
So Yes, this is even. Yes, absolutely. So this for me, he's running straight at the defender and the defender is in his, in his view and that's why he wipes him out.
And the umpire gave a PC? Yep.
Uh, yeah. Well, if you can't help it, you can't help it. But that's just. Yeah, you just wanted a hug. Robin's got a penalty stroke in a card. Good to see you Robin. Penalty stroke in yellow. Um, yeah, who knows? Who knows? Cuz he's wearing them, but he's also still able to look over shoulder and look for the umpire decision at the same time.
You know what? I agree. Play on spirit of love. You guys are hilarious. You're all there. Okay. Excellent work everyone. Yeah. Sorry. Penalty stroke and a card. There you go.
Thank you all. I am so glad we got to a consensus.
We talked about this one during the Talking Tokyo series, so if you were on the Discords and you were part of those crazy daily wrap up shows that I did, I can't, I still don't think I've recovered even though it was a year and a half ago.
Okay. We're not looking at the defender, the field defender, we are only looking at what Shreejesh does. So what are we calling here? Oh, we've got some Dutch. We've got some Dutch debate in fact. Like how that alliteration happened? Oh, and I have to submit in the answers. Thank you. Thank you Rachel.
Free hit defense for Mike. Okay. I'll just give another 30 seconds on this one and then we'll go. Penalty corner for Stijn.
Free hit for the goalkeeper. We also discussed this on Wednesday. It all looks clean, play on. No, Tristan. Okay, so the goalkeeper is not permitted to play without their helmet. Spoiler alert. So that's what you have to consider. Hi David. Hi David. I have Covid and I'm really silly today, so this is gonna be fun.
Get to have you might be wrong for hit defense for Roland. I like that, might be wrong.
That goes before everything I say, except I don't mean it. Stop play for losing helmet free hit defense.
Okay, you Dutch debaters come into the discord and I want screenshots. I want documents. I want the proof. Okay. I want to see the proof.
Penalty stroke for Ben. Can't play on with a helmet. Without a helmet. It's an intentional. Hey, wait, why haven't we gone to the correct scene?
Oh, you guys, this is a bit of a not cool thing.
My scene's been eaten.
What am I gonna do?
Hi, I'm gonna come back here and then I'm… just talk amongst yourselves. I want you to argue this one out, and I am going to…
Not live demo mode, preview mode. I really shouldn't do this, but I have to. Okay. Preview mode. Talk amongst yourselves. So now that we've established that the goalkeeper cannot play without their helmet,
what do we do? What do we do?
This is something. David Hunte as an Ecamm… I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but
this is what's happened to me. Okay. Option drag. Okay. I'm just gonna do this really crudely so that we can get something on the screen. Um, source scene, um, overlay. You guys are doing great. Keep it up. Keep it up over there. Keep talking amongst yourselves. Here's a topic. Dogs, daughters, and coffee. If a dog goes to a park, um.
Okay, one more overlay and then this will be my new scene.
You guys aren't talking enough. Come on, you're talking here. I'm, I'm walking here. So I was in New York last week after my talk in Albany. I was in Manhattan and I got to go to MoMA and it was really fantastic. So there you go. Okay. Publish. Hi
My scene got eaten by Stream Deck.
Attacker caused the helmet to be knocked off. That's the first foul to be penalized. Uh, although the keeper played on without a helmet, but the helmet was dislodged by the foul. So for me it's a free hit for the goalkeeper. Quickly. Um, yeah, something David, about when I switch with Stream deck, occasionally the scene will get eaten and it gets overwritten with whatever the form, with something else.
Who knows? We're just gonna ignore the attackers role in dislodging the helmet. Roger, are we just gonna ignore the, Oh, the indignation coming out of you today, Roger. I love it. There you go. Without the benefit of a video, you're gonna go with a penalty stroke and for the deliberate foul. Yeah, I, I see the… watch, the knee, leg, whatever.
And yes, we all know this. Shreejesh's helmet comes off with like the slightest provocation, but his head actually snaps back. He gets a leg in the head and it whips his helmet off. That's a free hit for defense. Okay. 23. It did it again. No, I'm still in preview mode. That's why.
Back to live mode.
Okay, let's see. This is, this is why I don't play around, right? The friends don't let friends, So we talked about this one on What Up Wednesday. It's almost like people watch our shows and then decide to have other conversations about.
Thanks David. Good work. A butterfly flapped its wings and Shreejesh's helmet…
Okay, everybody get your answers in. Let's go.
Let's go. Get those answers in. A retake and a yellow card says left back. Otherwise known as Mike McDowell. See, I can't sing David. I can't make up songs on the fly. No material different state outcome play. Not affected. No foul, says Tristan. A retake for Taco. A retake. Is this a retake? Remember, we're looking, does the player have complete control over what they're doing
in this instance? I've said it a few times. Apply the criterion.
You don't know the shootout regs, regs, uh, too well says Stijn, but the goalkeeper kick outside the D and within eight seconds. That is the question, isn't it?
Honestly, it just happened again.
Hi.
Maybe I'll just do this.
It's very rude.
I, I don't know what's happening. That's twice. David, you witnessed it? I'm gonna send this to Tyler cuz now we're best friends. Um, okay. Stream staying time up. Oh, attacker had also given up. Keely's gone dark. Absolutely. Okay. Oh, you're so sweet, David. So for me, this was a scenario where the…
Technically it's a stroke, it's a yellow card. It's all the evil things. In the spirit of the game, it's nothing. Okay. And that's, that's what we talked about. This is the first game that this team has won at a Commonwealth Games. It had no effect on whether anything different could have happened. It's a celebratory kick.
There's nothing, It's not a, I'm trying to make sure that this doesn't happen kick. Happens every 20, or, And my setup has covid. It does, It does. It has covid. Uh, you had Stijn's way of thinking. It happened outside the D therefore retake, But the deed does not count with shootouts. Yeah. It's just a stroke.
Yeah. Their, no, not their first medal. It was, it wasn't a medal game, but it was their first win in, in at the Commonwealth Games. Like it's massive. Player gave up chasing the ball. Yeah. I can understand the need, and if anything's different in the facts, then you might go a different way. But.
Let's, like what else is gonna happen today? What else is gonna happen to my scenes?
And I'm glad you can't hear this because the commentators really give you a different view of what's happening here. Okay? We're gonna have to watch this one a few times. So.
Have a look from all angles, all the three angles that we have available. This is question 24.
What's she going to say? But she never wants to card the goalkeepers. What if it's this time? Who knows?
PC in a card for Stijn.
PC. What? He's just going out for the yellow card for the 10 minutes. He's not pulling any punches here. The ball's kicked outside the circle. Contact with the ball's outside the D, the PC in the card. The collision fair on 50-50. Except Ben, the goalkeeper is not expected to be there. That's the difference.
That player coming in should not have to expect that the goalkeeper is gonna be playing the ball out there. Not in that manner.
Okay. We're almost there. We're almost there. And I'm gonna have to go to this scene.
Okay. And here's my answer. This is the penalty, penalty corner and card. Okay. The extra physical nature that is unexpected in this scenario is what I'm looking at here, plus all the other things. Plus it can't be a penalty stroke, so a corn- a the penalty corner in the card for sure. Hadn't thought of that.
Well, that's what I'm here for, Ben, is to make you think thoughts that you thought you couldn't think. It's a hard one. 10 for Mike. That's fine.
Maybe. I'm okay with that.
Another replay only.
Okay, we're gonna have to watch this one a few times. This is 25.
25.
Keep going. I'm gonna try to reconstruct my scene yet again.
Good. Your answers are pouring in. Keep going, guys, folks, friends. Screen share overlay.
Okay, one more.
Oops.
Already went to the answers, but there you go. Let's see what you're all saying. 25. Probably play on unless she touches the ball. You can't see her playing after losing the helmet. So play on. Play on. Does she play the ball without the helmet? You can't tell from the angles. She does not play the ball with, without her helmet.
Very hard to see. Play on. Yeah, it's, it's, it's a difficult spot. But let's see if I can fix this.
I tell you, if this disappears one more time.
I.
My OCD is definitely kicked in here.
She flails her foot, there as a kick, but the ball doesn't change direction and it doesn't move, so she doesn't manage to play the ball.
So we're okay with the play on here because she's not in danger and she's not in a danger that we need to save her from by calling a penalty stroke against or penalty corner against her. Hint. It's on screen. Did she play? No.
We're able to keep playing, I think in this one. Use the B word now. You regret it. What's the B word? I can't, but, Oh, the bully word. No, no. I, I, I mean, maybe. Okay.
She has to actually play the ball or be at risk of playing the ball. Looks like shot might… Don't complicate things. Do you think, Do you think my life isn't hard enough right now? Mike? Come on man. Come on. Is this gonna work?
I am very intrigued with how y'all are gonna answer this one.
Oh boy. We're gonna have to speed it up. So I keep it within two hours. Thanks to everybody for sticking around. This is fantastic. I really appreciate it. Wow. There's still 25 of you. That's incredible. Yeah. Free hit defense of potentially a card for leading with an elbow free hit defense. Green card, maybe yellow card to the attacker.
Um, that looks like kicking the goalkeeper from here. Card for the attacker. Looks like the attacker tries to karate kick the goalkeeper. I don't think he tries to karate kick, but he definitely kind of jumps at him with no control whatsoever. So I don't think it's, it's malicious necessarily. It's just a very much a lack of control.
And nothing's working now.
Okay. Well now we got my answer scenes back. My, my . That's the wrong sport. Very fair. Um, lots of keeper examples must be the most difficult to call. Yeah. Keeper, keeper incidences are difficult because they're infrequent. So I've talked about how aerial balls are difficult for us to call because we don't get practice at them until we reach higher levels of play.
So we've had lots of reps at obstruction, lots of reps at, at feet and played by the body, but we don't get a lot of reps of aerial balls. And this is another kind of low rep call and I think that's why I was always not very good there. Um, yeah, it's, it's a bad attempt to jump out of the way, but it's without control.
So I think I, I don't think I'd go with a yellow card here. I think I'd go with a green, but it depends, depends on the game and all that kind of stuff. So it would be a sideline ball in my view. And then stop time and send our friend 22 off.
Okay.
Man, this has been, this has been fun. It's tough to,
Yes.
Okay, we're only taking a minute on this one,
and I agree with that, Tristan, but it's, it's a bad attempt. It's reckless, there's no control. The ball's been well cleared before the collision happens, and there's not even an attempt to to move around the goalkeeper. So that's why I would give a card for the reckless physical play, which is worse: a red card or green, definitely a red.
Definitely red. A green is just like, is two minute suspension. A red is the whole game.
Penalty stroke for Taco. Penalty stroke for Stijn.
So I'm gonna go to the next, because I think this is, this is pretty close to what we've been seeing in a lot of the other ones as well. And yes, this is a stroke, but I don't see an extra card needed on this one. There's nothing extra with what the goalkeeper does. He just gets beat.
And the attacker makes a really good attempt to get over the goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper trips him up. So, high risk, high reward. Thank you. I don't have the willpower to argue against you either. Oops.
And sorry, I, I hadn't, I was like one on one. Okay. I didn't change the answer. Okay. Here's another aerial ball situation.
IMagine how my brain hurts. It's already swollen. My brain is killing me right now. What little I have left. Penalty stroke for Mike. Penalty stroke for, or penalty corner for Tristan. Penalty stroke. Clearly defined receiver. Okay, Now thinking about the factors that I've been talking about, can we bring this into the equation?
What can the goalkeeper see? What is their awareness of the situation?
Penalty corner for Taco. PC. What was called on the field advantage, David, It was a very not correct decision. Unfortunately.
Goalkeeper interferes with the attacker not with the ball. Yeah, I mean for two grounds. For two grounds, but for me, Wait, do I have it lined up?
Okay. And we're looking at 28 again, and for me the correct answer is the penalty stroke on this one. The reason being is the goalkeeper has full awareness of what they are breaking down here and with more room that attacker could have just dinked it over their head. So for me, this fulfills the extra part.
That we're looking for to elevate it from a penalty corner to a penalty stroke. Does that make sense? Am I on drugs?
I'd be able to see the player there. Infringing players ,a pretty obvious penalty stroke for me all the way. You could be really harsh or you could be somewhat harsh. Who knows?
- We're almost there. You guys we're almost there.
First of all, Quico Cortez, you legend. He makes us save with a hand behind his back. I'm sorry. I just love that part.
Utter legend. What's Spanish for legend? Is there any, any Spanish speaking players here? Play on, play on Ben's like, I know this one. I'm a goalkeeper and I know this one. He says, Taco, the glove is not mandatory. It's a play on a 23 metre restart. Absolutely. Good work, everybody. I'll just let everybody's answers come in to make sure.
Yeah, but it's really funny because Quico's like, Wait, I need a time. Stop. Wait, I'm fouling. And he sticks his hand behind his back. None of those things are true. And then he ends up making a save and it's a 23 metre restart. So, good work you guys. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, last question.
If I can get my mouse to move to where I want it to be on the screen. Last question. Let's do it.
Leyenda. Leyenda? It'd be leyenda in in Argentina I think. Right? I don't care. Mike didn't happen. It's not the quiz. Stijn wants a free hit for the obstruction.
Chris Pelmore you think play on?
She, She asks with a questioning tone in her voice. Does that mean she disagrees? Yes. Yes.
That's not the criterion that we use. We don't talk about who knows what, who's doing okay at this level of play. Not particular teams. It doesn't even matter if it's intentional or not, but does that knock her off balance and make it harder for her to make that save? Is she disadvantaged? Ian thinks free hit defense.
Now watching again, it's a free hit defense. Absolutely, Yes. It's a third party obstruction. I agree. I agree, I agree. Okay, everybody, that's time in so many ways, in so many ways. Wait, let me go to the last one. Free hit for the goalkeeper. Okay. Thank you so much for playing along. I think we have a few topics that we can, uh, go through in the forum section in the Discord.
So if you don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to the Discord, please come to FHumpires.com/discord and have a look. And I am going to post our cumulative survey results in there. I'll give it a few minutes. I'll have a nap and I'll get up and I'll have a look and see where everything is, is going.
Um, I don't like that you answered it wrong either, Chris. So that's one that you gotta call. It knocks her off balance, okay? And we don't do a good enough job of protecting goalkeepers. They don't get unobstructed line of sight to the ball, but they sure don't get to get knocked off balance. So there you go.
I'm glad you have fun, Taco. That's awesome. And yeah. Great. And Tristan, if you're not in the Discord server yet, get in there. I'd like to see you in there. 140 minutes. I know that's, But I think we did it a lot. It took a lot longer when we did the, the other one that was also more questions. Look, just don't, just don't make it hard for me today.
Okay. YOu didn't do the, Oh, that's totally fair. So Tristan, all you need to do is you can go into the Discord and you can do it again, and you can see. But there you are. And yes, I, I will get, I will get well soon. And you didn't answer all the questions. That's okay. I'm, um, it probably would've been near the same because again, my first blush, my first answers, you know, I look at it a few times and I'm like, Nah, that, and, and I have to, I, I think of my rationale as I'm going, but just like you, I can look at something two days later and say, No, I don't think I really got that one right.
And that's fine. Oh, you're tricky. Okay, great. Good. Thanks. I just can't associate names all the time. There you go. Um, this session would've been a lot faster and a lot cuter. I'm just saying. Okay. Thank you for joining in. Thanks always for being there. If you don't know what the fhu third team is all about, go to fhu3t.com.
And if you, if you wanna support on an ongoing basis, this $7 a month is, is a really nice way to do it. But we also have mentoring activities for the Yellow Gang who are getting some really impressive results in their leagues and tournaments. I have to say it. Like, I don't wanna brag, but they're really, really good.
So you might wanna become part of yellow and I am looking forward to seeing you in the Discord server. Enjoy the rest of your week of hockey. Let's go this weekend. Let me know what games you're doing this weekend. I'm excited for you and we will see you on the next What Up Wednesday. Bye.
