Hello friends, it's What Up Wednesday. Keely Dunn. FHumpires. I am glad you are here because there is no better way than to spend a cold wintry Wednesday than with my favorite people, the fhu3t, and yes, I know it's the favorite activity of every British person. Let me just fix my headphones while I'm at it is to talk about the weather.
I try not to do it too, too often, but let's face it, when you have had the Halloween snow and it has fallen and it is blanketed everything, and it's blowing and it's everywhere, you're like, yep, it's here. Winter is no longer coming, winter is here. So that is what's happening in this side of the world.
We've been playing indoor hockey now for three weeks and. It's, it's that I can no longer be in denial. Good to see everybody in the comments. I'm so glad to see, uh, Adam is here and let's see. Even Simon is here live. Yay. So glad, glad, uh, William's here and Rachel and Shayne and I were hanging out in the, um, in the lounge in the Discord.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, I just kind of soft started this. I didn't make it like a huge, big deal, but for the half hour before and the half hour after the live streams, if you are in the discord and you wanna come hang out with me and I don't know, just shoot shit . We don't talk about anything serious at all.
We talk about career opportunities and selling houses and dogs and weather. Obviously you could come and join us. It is in the local witch. is my name for the voice channel cuz every group needs a local and we've got one. So feel free to pop into that. And there'll be a, you know, I could put it up here.
See there, there's the discord. Did you know we have a discord? Come pop in. It'd be nice to have you there. Oh, what starts some music? All that kind of thing. Neals is here, of course. Jenny, I'm gonna miss you. But, uh, glad that you'll stop in for the replay. It's always good to have you. Matt Septon is here doing stuff.
I hear weird sounds. What's going on? Maybe it's snow and ice. I don't know. Cat's here, which is great because cat is going to be a key figure in one of the mysterious announcements that I have coming up later.
Uh, mark. Hi. Good to have you goers. So we have, we have, we have warm, we have wet and windy. We have windy in east. Instead, we have all these things Gideon's back. That's what I'm talking about. Richard Bruce. Very windy. Okay. So lot you have some wind. Good to know. I like this because one of the techniques that is counseled upon live streamers is like get some en engagement with the audience by asking them where they're.
Coming from and what the weather's like there. And I always go, that's dumb. I'm, I like engaging with you guys by asking you questions about on par and things like that. And then you guys just do it automatically, which I think is pretty dope. So there you go. Hey, good to see you Just finished cooking dinner, sweet and sour chicken, and I hope you weren't cooking me.
That would be awkward. Kroger. Why's Kroger? I'm gonna have to look that up after. Um, yes, we have a lot of snow. It's been snowing. It's started snowing on Halloween and it was kind of wet and slushy. Uh, but I knew what was coming. I knew that was gonna be real snow and real snow started accumulating overnight.
So it's been snowing for two days and there are, it, it's like, it's a surprise. Oh my god. Calgary what? Snow And there's. Literally nothing is, nothing's been shoveled. All the paths are, oh, it's just such a complete, complete mystery. Oh, I am in the wrong. Well, this is really awkward, you guys. I have to go into the YouTube studio in order to make sure that I can put in the polls.
No. What do you mean? No upcoming streams? Have you met me? I have nothing but upcoming streams. I have. I'm in a stream right now. Yeah, something went wrong. YouTube. That's exactly what it's telling me. Sorry, this is kind of important because you guys are gonna be wondering what's going on. There we go live.
Create. Go live.
It might be working now.
Okay, we're good. There we go. Engage with my audience. Start a poll. Start a q and a. Oh, this is interesting. This is a new feature. I can start a q and a with you guys. Answer viewer questions live. Okay.
I'm just gonna start typing. If you have something to ask from your weekend of games, now's the time.
Start q and a. Okay. I have no idea what I just did there. You guys can all tell me how did that work? Uh, alright. Ian, you made it for the first time a few weeks. Yeah. You've been, you've been a little busy. That's okay. I understand. And Godders, pretty sure the sliding tackles on the agenda. Yes. Yeah, it'll be, that will be an interesting chat.
I think that might be our number one. So let's see what happens tonight. Okay. Um, as often I declare tonight's today's, this morning's for Shayne and all the Kiwis. This episode is brought to you by the Mission Control Workshop. Mission Critical positioning actually. But it's not a workshop, it's an online course.
No. I, I just automatically say workshop cuz that's how I've always referred to it. If you want to learn all about how to be in the best position to make the most important calls, how to work with your colleague on these things, how to talk to your on par managers and coaches about what is the new positioning style.
And when I say new, it's kind of like new, but anyway, it's new. Can we new to some people? Then please come along and sign up for this. It launches on November 15th and I'm making some really good progress on it. So very excited that you guys have all incented me so hard to get it done. You can sign up at fhm empires.com/cp.
It is $5 off until November 15th when it launches. So November 14th till 1159. Let's make it Pacific. Time. So that's pretty late. Like y'all can get up early in the morning on the 15th and you can still get $5 off some of you, right? But I will make it a Pacific Time cut off. And then all you yellow members, if you haven't taken this already, gutters, you've taken it already twice.
If you have not taken the workshop already, then please do sign up at that point because then you can take advantage of what is your 50% discount. I said it wait, 50% discount. Okay, so there it is. I'm really looking forward to it. It's gonna be interesting, a new experience for me to try to run a ongoing asynchronous course and to provide all the support that you all so richly deserve in it.
So, Come along, let's see how it goes. Um, I wanted to send out some congratulations as well to yellow member Mr. Sam Krasner. I am delighted to be able to join in the massive chorus of congratulations that he has achieved his level three assessment and past. So I am so pleased for him, and pleased for the M Q A, cuz you got a good one.
And I've worked a little bit with Sam and I'm really happy about the progress that he's made and I just love. I, I try not to be very goal-oriented. I try not to emphasize those things, but you can't help but take stock of the milestones that you achieve. So this is a milestone. Congratulations, Sam. Glad that you're glad that you're there.
Okay, so, oh, let's go. What's topics today? Goalkeepers kicking on free hits the tackle. You'll know why. Taking the sting out of the game. And then one big surprise announcement, and then, oh my God. Another big surprise announcement. I'm really good at developing drama, aren't I?
You like that? I'm just gonna play a little sound for no reason at all. Okay. Let. Oh wait, there's a whole bunch of comments. I gotta make sure I don't miss anything. This is important, especially cuz Jeanette chimed in, so I got, I gotta get there. Is it a new camera or just your screen? Okay. What's wrong?
What's wrong? Because I had to change up my settings big time. Yeah. I don't know what the q and a is Dina like who sprung this on us and didn't, didn't say anything. Okay. Something didn't appear in the chat. Y'all are trying out the q and a. Let's, let's find out. I can ask a question. How many cards should I give?
If there are multiple breakdowns as the attacker goes from halfway to deep? Ooh, I, so they end up here. How do I, can I, Ooh. Select question.
Did that, did that do something on your end? I can ask a question. There you go. Okay. I'm gonna save these up because I think we're gonna go through our clips pretty fast today. I'm saying it and with conviction, cuz I know it's gonna happen and it's not gonna happen. Lower resolution crap. Okay, Dina, can I book an appointment with you after this and we can fix this?
Oh, it tells me I need to change the re video resolution. Why? I should not have to. The current resolution is 4K and it should be there. Not supportive for this configuration. What?
Let's find, let's find out. Okay. So yeah, I, so I think what can, what can happen is you can put this in the q and a and I kind of store it up and then I get to, it's like another box. Ooh, ooh, ooh. So, so it'll be on this side if you have side by side. So in the comment thing where it says live chat, hit the down arrow and hit q and a.
I bet it's there. I'm just imagining it my mind. Let's see. There you go. My webcam is, uh, this is, yo, this is not a webcam. This is a Sony's EV 10. So thank you, Matt. This is the kind of support that I need. Okay. Hang on. Where is, where is that? Hi, reboot. Don't worry about it. I'm. Squirrel out. Big time here.
Sounds well done. The colors are colder. Okay. The colors are colder. Let's see if I do that. I looked really yellow to me, so there you go. Now I'm warmer. I probably look a lot warmer. Okay. And you just saw Neil's question. Okay, so that works.
I have many stats about this. Okay.
And yes, we'll fix it for next week. Oh my God, am I doing a doc? Dina ? There you go. But this is what I'm talking about, this kind of like drop, help me out here, make me feel better. What's going. What's going on here and thank you. Godders. Mission critical positioning, recommended for all umpires. So says Godders.
You know what? I'm gonna get you to do a little testimonial for me because let's face it, who doesn't do what you tell them to do? There you go. Manage out the stream to four. Okay, there you go. Ah. So yes, you all have controls. You have a little gear on the bottom of your viewer window in YouTube and you can up the settings.
So you should be able to get it up to. Um, two K least. Let's see. Um, yeah, but that's the wrong term still. That's not it. Anyway. Oh my gosh. Sean Denton is here live for the first time. Oh my gosh. And it's cats and dogs for him. I'm excited. Okay, let's get going. So I can live up on my promises. Goalkeepers kicking on the free hits.
Okay.
Oh, that was fast . It's okay. I was dancing. The music stopped.
So this was the question posed by rival hockey on this, and I'd like to hear your things. Can I add a poll as well? Let's see what happens. Start a poll. I can. This is great. Okay. What's the call
from? The play on from the goalkeeper kick, um, penalty corner, add option penalty, stroke add option. And one more option just for Shayne.
Restart with a bully. I, I complained vociferously in another field hockey server that I was in when I got pegged on this. And this is the problem when you get old, is that you get asked the same question over and over and over again and you kind of get tired of answering the same question. So what we're gonna do today, in addition to you answering the poll obviously, is we're gonna work through this step by step.
Ooh baby, can I do your work? And we are gonna , we're gonna go from the top and we're gonna make sure we work through every single rule so we know how to apply. The principle the next time that this comes up and maybe just maybe you're gonna be able to help other people apply principles as well so that when they see something that they haven't seen before, they can say, don't you worry.
I have the tools to sort out what the correct decision is. Let's see who can help players and people on Instagram figure out what the correct call is.
Okay. So let's see. We've got all of these stick first legal for you says Rachel, that seems awesome. like, let's just cheer for it cuz it's dope. All of you that are in England will remember that Simon Mason made history in a prem game when he was, I think he was playing for Redding and he did this like just a couple months ago.
Okay, it might have been a few years ago. And it was the talk of the town and it gets raised probably once a year as the talk of the town and it, it doesn't happen like, I mean how many times have you seen it? But it always seems to make it to Instagram. So that's the key review. As long as it's not dangerous.
Is it any different from to an aerial from the defender? Great question. The Horsham one. Lou one goalkeeper used to do exactly that, says Malcolm. Hi Malcolm. Have we met?
Welcome. Can you take the free hit in the circle two with the kickers or no, Ben? Okay. Have another look. Since we're seeing it many times, is the free hit taken with the kickers or not?
Tristan? I didn't think that keepers could hold onto the ball on their pads like that. Is there a holding of the ball? And if they can't do that, why Find the rule for me and we'll talk about it. Okay. For Taco, as the goalkeeper starts with a stick, it's legal, not dangerous in the start. Legal, assuming safe on the way up.
Daniel. The question is though, can you cheat this the same as an aerial or not? Okay. Daniel, why would you not treat as an aerial? Is it an intentionally raised pass? And I know those words do not appear in the aerial rules. They should cuz that is the intention of the rule. The whole reason that we have this intended receiver gets five meters with which they can bring down the ball, is to encourage an intentional skill to develop.
That is why the rule came in in the early aughts, so that people would say, okay, we can try this skill cuz we know that the rules protect a player who is receiving this aerial pass. If nobody was receiving any protection and it was just chaos, well, you know, you'd be putting your own teammates in the hospital sometimes, maybe the opposition, it would've been terrible.
So, The rule was strictly applied and as we've experienced in recent history, is getting relaxed a little bit more and a little bit more. So that's really, really good.
The D is for you, Shayne. I feel like it's like inclusi inclusivity training. There we go. Um, Sean says it seems okay. All right. Seems okay. So let's go through the rules. Okay. Williams starting to get on. I'm gonna get to Williams in a sec. No, opponents were in the D, right? So there really isn't a disadvantage.
Um, there definitely are 10 opponents in the financial and what would the disadvantage be? Yeah, as well. The disadvantage being on an potential obstruction. Okay, so that's the rule tricks that I want you to look for is obstruction. The reason the goalkeepers can't cover the ball is because of obstruction.
They can't grab the ball because of obstruction. There is no, you know, the, the, there's no specific rules except you see that those are referred to as obstruction. So if the goalkeeper has the ball on their blocker, the only rule that you have to consider is, well, you can consider danger as well, but the other main rule that you're considering is obstruction.
Does the fact that the ball is on a glove mean that opposition opposing players are blocked from playing the ball? That's all you have to consider, and the free hit has to be started with the stick. Okay, taco, let's find, let's start finding all these rules because. That's just how we're gonna, we're gonna go.
Okay. So the first rule that I want you to consider is this. Now is this gonna work for me? Let's see.
Okay. I can draw with my finger. Can I draw with my pen? I can draw with my pen. I was literally troubleshooting this as I was supposed to be going live, and then I gave up and now it's working and that's what you need to know. Okay, so we'll start with ten two. Okay. Goalkeepers are permitted to use their stick feet, kickers legs, or leg guards or any part of their body to deflect the ball with the backline or to play the ball in any direction.
They just can't do it in a way that causes danger to other players or take advantage of the protective equipment they wear in order to do so. So that to me says we're good, right? Because the first touch of the ball from the goalkeeper was the stick. Pulled it back, lifted it up, and then onto the blocker, queued it up, and then kick.
Okay, so the first touch was, anyway, goalkeepers can use their kickers. I totally messed up that sequence of logic. So sorry, because the next thing we need to go to is 12 point 13.2 D.
Okay. So for a free hit to be properly taken, the ball is moved using a hit push flick or scoop. Those are defined terms in the top of the rule book and. The ball was played initially with, well, you could call it a push, you can call it a scoop, you can call it anything like that, but it C certainly applied.
And also there's no problem if it was immediately raised because it can be immediately raised using a push flick or a scoop, just not with a hit. Okay? So that's the next rule that we look at. And then, is there anything else? There's no rule that says only field players may take free hits. There's no rule that says that subsequent touches on a free hit.
Imagine if a, a field player defender. Takes the free hit and just massively mos it up. Who knows what they do, but they play it back towards their own goalkeeper. Is that goalkeeper then entitled to use their feet so long as they are within the circle to play the ball? Yes, they are. Subsequent touches are fine as long as the free hit is taken legally under 12 point 13.2 sub D and E.
Okay. And after that it's just aerial rules and to me this does apply. This is an intentionally raised pass. That aerial rules then need to be ascribed to. So let's see. You can start with a hit drag or flicks, which they do, says William. Excellent. There you go. There you go. Free hit requires using the stick and Isaac's with Horsham and pre previously hav keeper who also did it.
And yes, the legendary story as we talked about it. Yeah, get on with it. Yep. It's good skill. It's good skill. Matt wants that takes the free who at the back of his stick. Intentional. You're, you're done. You're done. Mike. Yes, he sure did. And I'm sure other goalkeepers did too. Hynek good to have you. And it is high skill, but also you can see the result at the end.
The ball lands at two players. The whistle goes, you can tell from the body language of the players. A free hit is called in that moment cuz I think. We're gonna just assume from the whistle that the umpire got this one right? And there were two players within a space, no clear intended receiver.
Therefore, it was dangerous and the free hit needed to be awarded. So it's a high risk play for many goalkeepers because it's, it's difficult. It's a difficult skill to accomplish and to get clear directionality. Even then, that ball, when we went about 40 meters, um, apparently it has been done such that the ball, the legend that follows Simon Mason around on this story is that it went to the other circle, landed to a player who then put it in the net.
If that is true, who knows? Who knows? Oh, you know, this is legal. Okay, Ben. Okay. Okay. All right. I see you boo. I see you. You don't have to get all like stressed on me. Can they just kick it off the ground? Not to play the free hit, nor an indoor, they cannot simply kick the free push. Hi hockey moments. You like the takeoff?
Yeah. No obvious receiver though. Don's got it nailed. She knows. Yes. There you go. Catch race once a year. Oh, oh, drop. I had no idea.
No, it's. Uh, there we go, Fred. Thank you. So we're starting to dive into the rules. Okay. Ten four says, stick only outside the D. Hence, no restriction inside unless it's dangerous. Thank you. Stijn. Fantastic. Yeah. See, now you're all working through the rules and this is what I want you to do. Okay? Because this is what I have to do.
Whenever a, a clip comes to me, my ego brain is like, I know what the answer is to this. I don't need to check anything. And then person who's afraid of being wrong in the internet, brain says, I'm gonna check the rules first, and I'm gonna comb through and double check and make sure that everything I'm seeing accords with what I know.
There's only 15 rules. It's really not that hard. You can work through it. It's fine. Yes, it would be a free hit to the opposition at the point of the reception where the danger occurs and the danger occurs at there. At there. But if this is dangerous because of obviously Steven not being there, then it's a pc.
Nope, nope. The danger is created because there is an option. There's a lot of time as this ball's in the air, there is the ability for the teammate of the goalkeeper, aka an attacker. That dude could have slipped off and been like, oh, we're both here. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna get five meters away.
I'm gonna give him that five meters. I'm gonna get in front of the ball. We're gonna defensively structure, let's keep playing on. And when you have the time and the ability to declare who the initial receiver is, Then you can do so and invite a different course of action by the infringing player, the teammate of the passer, to do something different so that we can continue playing.
Advantage always applies. Yeah, nothing wrong with a kick free. Hit to blue on the halfway. Yep. Excellent. Hit push. Yep. You're all working through it. Excellent. Goalkeeper is taking advantage of their protective equipment, though, as you wouldn't do that without kickers, but yes, so the wording is poor. The wording is poor because it's not.
It's not about using your equipment doesn't mean you're taking advantage of your equipment. This is taking advantage of your equipment in a way that you can play differently vis-a-vis other players. Because you're gonna be safe. They're not. Okay. It's still on the, because it's all encapsula encapsulated.
It's all encapsulated in 10.2. Okay. Goalkeepers are not permitted to conduct themselves in a matter which is dangerous to other players by taking advantage of the protective equipment they wear. Words matter, friends, words matter. Okay.
Um, there we go. You guys are all starting each other out, so that's good. It's not separated from the danger bit. Thank you. See, see if I, if I could just read through all your comments, I wouldn't have to do any work at all, but I'm too impatient. I'm like, I can answer this. So can you, and you're being facetious.
Did you know that Facetiousness is hard to pick up on the internet?
See what I did there. I did it. Are we equally happy with the goalkeeper? Throwing the ball after the first touch as okay. Within the rules is covered, but seems wrong. Throwing the ball after the first touch. What do you mean by throwing? Can you expand on that? Because I don't wanna answer a question that you haven't asked.
Current keeper at Locke does this when she was in high school, did that. Okay. Are there two defenders very slowly taking off knee pads? Yeah. There you go. So, uh, Mike McDowell is addressing the point about where the free hit occurs or where the free hit is to be awarded, or the foul is to be awarded.
Sorry. Because if it's awarded inside the circles, clue not gonna be a free hit, is it? Mm, no. The legend is true. Sister to sister for a goal. Goalkeeper got the assist. Only Americans truck assists. I just want you to know, hi Luke. It's only Achille. 50 minutes late. Are we halfway through? Oh, geez. Or half, half an hour.
There you go. Okay. Uh, Daniel would I have the same answer if it was an outfield player, was scooping it up into the air and batting it high and long instead of the goalkeeper. Uh, not necessarily because intentionally raised hits are treated differently because they are treated differently.
Excuse me, under the rules.
Um, okay, so Daniel, when you raise hypotheticals like this, what I want you to challenge yourself to do is to go into the rule book and find things like, players must not intentionally raise the ball from a hit except for a shot of goal. Now, we've had long discussions about what it means to hit a ball out of the air.
Is that an intentionally raised hit? Is that not? Do we judge it on danger explicitly? Do we bring 9.9 into it? I'm not going down that road cuz otherwise this will be an entire Keely hour of this one question, which it doesn't deserve. But with this, it answers your question. It's only an intentionally raised hit that is prohibited under rules, and since a kick is not a hit, more fun.
Okay. Yeah, we need a button for that. . Hi David. How does my camera look? I'm gonna ask all my live streaming friends, how does my camera look? Launching the ball from their hand, not using kickers. So throwing or catapulting with a hand. Okay. Gideon, that's a, that's a really good question because there used to be fairly restrictive rules that over the last 20, 25 years have been relaxed as to how goalkeepers can use their blockers.
And it used to be that there was a provision under Section 10 that talked about whether goalkeepers could propel the ball at all. So it used to be that only all goalkeepers could do was to let the ball hit them in the, and hopefully the ball would land somewhere nice. Can you imagine playing, trying to play goal under those circumstances?
That's ridiculous. And then the rules committee realized, okay, that's dumb. Let's let them deflect the ball anywhere they want so they can impart other force on it in order to deflect it over the end line. And then it got more and more relaxed and more and relaxed till it said goalkeepers could direct the ball so long as it wasn't done.
So over long distances, that was the last phraseology of this rule. Now even that's been taken out because you know what? It just wasn't a thing. I don't remember ever having to even consider calling a goalkeeper for passing the ball with their hand, basically, is what they were sort of trying not to let happen.
And now it's, it's not, it is not against any rule that has been hallucinated. So do I have a problem with it? No. I only have a problem with things that are either dick moves dangerous or are fouls under the rules. That's it. , that's, I love having fewer problems. I got 99 problems and the rules are all of them.
Okay. I think that's important. Yes. It's been outta the rules for a while. Okay. Excellent. So let's, let's do the thing when, when we end the poll and we do a two minute warning,
and then I pull this up here and I get rid of the old one. Sorry, I should clear it out. Okay, so there it is. Oops. That could have been disastrous, what I just did that you didn't know about. So basically most of you have this, uh, in line quite nicely, that with 39 votes, thank you so much. 39 people for participating.
And 94% of you saying Play on for the goal keeper. Keeper kick. Yep. So can somebody write back to Rival Hockey timestamp this entire discussion and say, get yourself educated.
Drop just.
But they do this on purpose. They bring up things that look unfamiliar over and over and over, over again, and then say, oh, is this legal? I don't know. Just so they can get engagement. Because the highest engagement posts are ones in which an unfamiliar or contentious rule is needing to be applied. They keep saying that we're not the biggest deal in the sport, but the numbers kind of speak the other way.
Just say, okay, what happened in the last 2%? Uh, they just clicked the wrong button. There you go. What happened to the other 2%? 2%. That's Shayne . That's Shayne Restarting with a bully. Okay. Just. Don't worry. Your pretty little head about him. Oops. And that's time.
Thank you all. Excellent discussion. Let's move on. Two, the high tackle. This one is courtesy of,
of our friend Gers. Okay. I have a, I've kind of stitched together a couple different pieces of footage that describe all this, cuz I did get it from two different people, not just from Gers.
Okay. Oh, it's time for Paul. Yes, Shayne definitely is. Shayne's the 1%. We're gonna start calling him the, the 1%,
what's your call? And we are going to go with a, I don't even know why I'm putting some of these options in here, because you know, I don't believe in them.
Okay. Hole is up. Let's hear it.
Okay. David's happy with my camera. Thank you, David. I know I'm, I've been working on it. YouTube is finding maths hard today. It's kind of like me finding maths hard all the time. Free hit to the white team. Where's the option Ben Burton?
Disconnect your buzzer. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, Google disconnect your buzzer. And if you don't get an S CTV skit, then we're gonna talk. I would like you to go find that.
Yep. It'll B sctv and you will now learn the history of Canadian comedy. Okay. That is a nasty one. Very, very ouch.
Shayne gets one. He gets one. We're not doing any more than that. That is unreal. I know it. There's a, there's a shit creek gif. Oh, I'm tapping on the wrong things. But there's a shit creek of G going of David. That's unbelievable. You know, and it's, anyway, that's the one I responded to the first time I received it.
Did the guy also fall in the ball? Probably. I bet that really hurt a lot too. I think it's in watch body language. Okay. Just because. It's one thing to look at the actual foul and, you know, make judgements and things like that, but watch the body language of the players. As this happens, watch the teammates of the player who has been failed.
Watch the teammates of the player who committed to the foul and see how they're all reacting. Okay? Because we need to be better at picking up on what it is that we're managing, which is the players. We're ma managing the entire game. Do we have a fight about to break out on our hands? Do we have a player who is truly remorseful?
And the guy that he's fouled is like, yeah, I can see why you made that mistake. Not, not here, , because he turns away. This guy is like, here, let me, let me give you a hand up. Let me, let me give you a pat. And he's like, mm. No . So where's the play on you guys? I tell ya, it's a reckless tackle for rebut 10 minute yellow card for you.
Not intentional, violent son. Not red, unless a previous yellow in the game. Okay. Um, I know, right? We are gonna turn around this live shot. You don't start behaving What was even going through his head? I, I don't know. It's a long run up, but all slide tackles are long run-ups. Okay. But he's, he's almost, the thing that's even worse is that he's still running almost as he hits , the crown and his opposition.
It's like he's decided he's gonna make a slide before he even sees where the ball is gonna be and what direction his run is gonna take him in. And he never should have continued along that decision. not at any point. And it's, yeah.
And Daniel, uh, well spotted it looks like two teams of players with respect for the umpires and a column match. Yes. So you heard a little bit of the, I wanted to include some of the audio so people heard all the woo, because there's always some wood going on. He looks like he's trying to intercept the past, but his line is really bad.
Okay. But this is a point to make, uh, McDowell I'm glad you brought it up because. This isn't just one player sliding into another and there's no ball in sight and there's no contest for the ball, blah, blah, blah. Like, it's there. Is this, uh, a, a a reasonable choice to make? Absolutely not. Is there a ball in play?
Yes, there is.
Geez, I'm really disgusted that Ben let's, we'll sort that out in the server. The player in block does the sensible thing and protects the ball with his body and the reception. But it's a hundred percent on the sliding player to avoid the contact. Yes. Uh, Godders is about 10 meters away. . Yeah. Reckless. No consideration for opposition.
It's a yellow car. 10 minute and the umpire tries to calm the emotions. Yeah. I, I like that piece of watching the umpire walking in and he's not running in cuz you might be tempted. Okay. A player's been hurt. I need to get in there fast. But the message that you can be sending with that, Very pacey run is that you are not calm as the umpire.
You don't trust what's about to happen with these players. So you almo, you can exacerbate, you can intensify the emotions that are about to be exhibited and send the players different signals than what they're picking up on at this moment. Everybody's just kind of walking and chilling and all that kind of stuff, and that's important to see.
That is important to see because how you deliver this card, if you need to give any other further communication to the, the captains, to some certain players, whatever, that'll be important. Definitely. Tim sliding is always risky if you're taking the other play to ground. It's reckless, physical and a big breakdown of play.
Yes, so the guidance, we all know the briefing a sliding tackle, which requires if it's a tackle, it means that it's an attempt to get the ball from a player who has it. Okay. That's what a tackle is under the rules. And see now I'm like, wait, am I right? I should go look at the rules. So I'm gonna pin up to the definitions.
Field of play. Tackle
an action to stop an opponent retaining possession of the ball. Okay? That's what a tackle is. So whenever you see people trying to apply the guidance of the mandatory 10 minute yellow card, which I was about to lead up to, to situations where it's not a tackle, I have a problem with that. Not because a 10 minute yellow couldn't be applied.
Sometimes it's very deserved, but it may actually only be a five minute or.
If the player isn't brought to ground, for example, that's the last part of the guidance. So it's gotta be a slide tackle that makes contact with the opposing player and brings them to ground.
What, whatever those components need to be there. Otherwise, you do not have a mandatory 10 minute yellow card. Okay? I need to be very insistent on that.
So this, I, I wanna bring Godders into this. So Godders, I want you to fill this in. Why you wanted to bring this to what up Wednesday? Why this was an intense discussion. Young umpire, Harry often was very calm. Only 21, which showed great comments throughout the game. Umpire with great potential. I know, cuz we've done a couple of debriefs.
He's in yellow and he is really good. So y'all are, when you're in. So what was it that made this contentious, Steve? Cuz I wanna hear about it, Shayne. 10 min yellow. But is it another part You need to quickly assure the teams that you're dealing with this Yep. To deescalate in hot tempers. So that's the balance I'm talking about as to how you can show I got this, everybody calm down.
I'm handling it without looking like you are. You're any kind of panic whatsoever either. Okay. So I'm just gonna wait for, I'm gonna wait for Godders.
So I had a lot of pushback last week on one of the 10 minute yellow cards. Scenarios that I assess to be that the consensus here was 10 mink. The umpire on the pitch only gave a five minute, and it was for a collision by a tackler. And the, the, it was the Netherlands German situation where the German defender came in and, you know, hammered the Dutch attacker pretty hard.
And there were many calls for a red card. And I had a, a, an exchange with one person in the comments on the replay comments who said, well, the head injuries are very, you know, have very big consequences and can be very detrimental, people's health and things like that. And it's like, yeah, but is that something that we need to address by deploying the same level of punitive actions that other.
Sports have, when we have a range that's available to us that isn't available in those other sports, do we have a problem with players targeting other people with intentional head injuries? Is that an issue? Does it happen often? Is it, is it a thing? Where do all our concussions come from in hockey?
You know, what, what are we truly addressing if we do that? Cuz first of all, let's face it, if something's already happened, it doesn't matter if this guy's leg gets broken on this tackle. It doesn't matter if it's a play on or if it's a red card, that guy's leg is broken, period. So it has to be that whatever punitive action is taken is required in order to send the message to the community at large that this cannot happen again.
Do we have a widespread problem with sliding tackles continuing in our sport? Is it getting worse or is it getting better? Is a uniform application of the 10 minute yellow card for slide tackles that make contact with the ball carrier and bring them to ground? Is that not enough? Do we need to do more?
Those are the questions you have to ask yourself before you start going. That looks really bad. It should be a red card. Okay, so I get really, we have to be logical. We have to apply principles because if we act with emotion, we are going to get it wrong. We might get it right in this situation, but what happens the next time when some of the facts change a little bit?
Okay, week before that, thank you, Janette. I lose track of all the times I'm wrong on the internet. According to many men who like to come in my comments, the context in Summon Crowd at the time and Plenty more after seeing the video wanted read, the force of the sliding player in this instance is, is rarely seen.
Absolutely. That's very correct. Malcolm. Would collision have occurred if player with Ball hadn't stepped in a position between the ball and the opponent? Nine 12 still would've given a yell Yellow card. And that's, that's kind of the interesting part that you can sort of look at. I mean, it didn't matter what direction this receiver was facing.
Okay, this was absolutely gonna be a a, a clear out no matter what,
but the dynamic of that movement of any change of direction, of the body position and things like that, we do need to take that into account. And I got a lot of arguments and pushback on. A particular yellow card that was given, I believe it was at the Pro League, it was against India when Harmon Preet did a slide tackle and the ball carrier, I think it was Lucas, via of of Argentina,
might be the wrong player carrying the ball. O just starting to arrive close to the 23. And Harmanpreet came in a similar, but not the same direction, but they were like two trains meeting. And the argument that I heard from some of the very, you know, I heard this from top performance players saying the Argentinian ball carrier saw it coming and could have easily jumped out of the way, but he took the contact instead.
And that's where the, there is nuance in these situations. I still believe that. There's no question, you know, If, if you're doing that, you can't put the responsibility on a ball carry that they not only have to be dribbling looking for their passes, understanding where they are in space and when somebody comes sliding along the ground like they're not supposed to because they're not allowed to play the ball with their body.
if they're a field player, that they have to then also be able to dive over. They gotta jump over them and take the ball with them. We're putting a lot of onus on a ball carry in that situation, and I don't think that's fair, even at that level.
Um, let's see. Sorry, Ribhu, you're not saying that this was the case in this situation. Okay. But if the spectators are getting very vocal about a red cart to that point or aggressive, is there anything as an umpire you can do? You're asking because you've had sideline spectators being quite verbally aggressive to calls.
There's, there's not a ton you can do right at the moment because as an umpire, your 99 problems are. Within that big white box, you are in complete control and you have utter responsibility for everything that's happening there. And what happens outside that should not be your domain. Now, if you are umpiring in a situation where there's no technical people around, there's no club officers, there's no anybody, and it's just sort of you and the players, then yeah, you've got more, you, you might have some spectator things to deal with, but you can do a lot of good by just reacting the way that you, you do caring yourself calmly the way that Harry did here.
Seeing that the players are reacting to that and they're okay with that. The, the, the crowd can do whatever they want as long as they're not keying up the people that you are responsible for keeping safe and keeping their conduct under control. That said, there's work you can do outside the pitch as an umpire.
Talking to people, going to people after the game and saying, Hey, you know, did you enjoy the game? What did you like? I, you know, I heard, I heard a bunch of people asking for a red card. Do you wanna tell me more about how you feel about that? Have a conversation. Start a dialogue. The reason that I say many of the same phrases over and over again and, and we go through these scenarios is that I want you to be armed with a logical process you can work through so that you can explain these things to other people.
You are very important to this whole process. So review, that's what I would say, uh, in that moment. And it, it's, it's highly community dependent. If you have anybody else out there who could be responsible or might not be whatever, so, uh, God is your instinct was a 10 minute card and the video makes it look worse.
10 minute yellow, the umpire call, we can't discount just how, how these things appear different when we're not there. Yeah, Luke, you have a full range of corrective action from the small word all the way to the big red circle. And you need to use the spectrum and not just go for the emotional gut reaction.
Yep. It's got to be based in the rules. It has to be based on principle and it's gotta be done in such a way that you apply the same principles every time it comes. And if you're not doing that, you will be inconsistent. You might not be inconsistent in the way that players and coaches understand it, cuz they don't understand how important certain fact changes are to how we apply principles.
But we do know because if you can't defend it afterwards because you just like, oh, I just looked terrible, you're in trouble. Uh, the issue is not all slide tackles that result in a serious injury will result in punishing the, the slider. It can be the other player that caused it. Yeah. So that's one of the reasons Taco, that I absolutely hate black and white rules.
And we had this discussion in the server. I don't know, I don't think anybody who's involved in that is here in the comments now, but there are people calling for, well, we need to be more clear and it needs to be more black and white. And I say, you can't. That is going to lead to more inconsistencies because as soon as you change, as soon as that player with the ball decides, oh, actually I'm gonna start dribbling at.
The player who's sliding towards me, you change something a little bit and suddenly black and white doesn't work. And that's why we have to resort to principles. That's why that's where we need to rest our arguments. Your Honor. I rest and yeah, that's and absolutely like as tricky says. Take this up, let's continue these discussions in the Discord cuz these are ideas and skills and tactics and things that can take a lot of flushing out.
So we can certainly do it. Okay. Um, hi Rachel.
I'm glad you're here and I'm glad you're there in the discord. Good to have you. First time joining in the live 10 minute yell card. Yes. Yep, exactly. That is the case. But the, yeah, make sure that we understand it's sliding tackle and it's that it takes the player to ground.
Owner should be always on the tackler. Yes. There you go. Checklist. So Mike Withal is just revising that crowd was actually very measured. More of a debate. Yes. You're very polite and firm. I love it. Okay, uh, let's go with the two minute warning. Let's close this down. End the poll,
and let's get our result.
Oops. Don't put it on your monitor. Keely, put it on your actual app something, which, uh, there you go. 80% of the very good looking people who are in the chat, we're looking for the 10 minute yellow. 9% asked for a red card, um, and 2% went with a five minute yellow. Okay, so for the probably one person that went for the five minute yellow card, do.
I, I hope you appreciate now that we've gone through the discussion that that isn't enough under the briefing. This is a classic case that fulfills all the criterion we're looking for, for the 10 minute yellow card guidance. So that has to be given here. Okay. And for those of you who are looking for a red card, I hope we've also been able to talk about the reasons why and the outright violence that we're looking for that is separate from the hockey match.
It's not a hockey action, whatever happens probably because it's off the ball or if it's on the ball. It's not a reasonable attempt. It's, it's nothing that is, you know, you could be on the ball and you could be attempting to make a tackle and you also punch somebody in the face that punch has stole a red card just because you're doing something hockey ish with your stick at that moment.
Okay, so that's the difference was the action part of even a really stupid, poor and dangerous attempt at playing hockey. Then we, we say, we're gonna go with a 10 minute yellow on that. Unless, as a few people pointed out, if there was a past history in this, pardon me, in this game, and another player had already taken a yell card for something like this, okay,
David Hunt's fessing up and that's okay cuz you're not a ho, you're not a hockey person. You, you're here every week and you're learning about it, but you don't necessarily, you haven't grown up in the culture where we have all these progressions that they don't have in sports ball. It's all or nothing.
It's either a warning or you're outta the game and that's sports ball and it's, and it's dumb. Who let the intern update the pool uh, tickets to wander pointed on my cards. I don't, that must be a political thing that I don't know, Sue. I don't know that, see, that's the, that's the political stuff. It's all good.
Um, well there's that too. Where's the 1% ? Rebut was really concerned at YouTube math. I'm not surprised. I'd be concerned at YouTube Math as well. Okay, let's go, let's go onto our last one, taking the sting out of the game. Um, Simon Dolby brought this up and this arose in this match that happened on Sunday.
We are at five minutes left in the fourth quarter. It had staged at two one up until that point. A minute and a half later, Spain scores a rocket.
There's a lot of showmanship going on here. I like passion and excitement, but that scratching, sir, that's just poor on the push on the center pass that ensues. This happens.
Okay.
Okay. You can hear all of the things about, Hey, it's a free hit. It's this, it's that the other.
Okay,
so the question was raised as well based on the commentator's evaluations, and I wanted to bring this up cuz I thought we could have an interesting discussion about the role that an umpire does have about controlling the tempo, the temp, and the pace of a game in heated situations when things have been moving quickly.
But one thing that I'd like to reinforce before we get into any of that discussion is you're watching a match on television and you can't see lots of things that are happening. We only see what the directors are choosing to put in front of us. Well, guess what? Simon and Dan are watching from an undisclosed location, likely in the uk, maybe not even in the same room.
They might not even be in the same like half of your little island over there. They don't know either. So they can't just stand up and look around the stadium and try to figure out what else is happening. So to to draw an assumption and they have to do it. It's their job. They're supposed to be trying to interpret what's happening.
What I do notice is that, The Indian goalkeeper is not pulled out of the net at that moment, which I would've expected. That kind of whistle, that kind of stoppage at this juncture of the game, all that kind of stuff, I would've expected Graham Re to pull his goalkeeper, but he didn't. Maybe they were going to and they didn't.
Who knows from the clipped audio that we get from what Koon says from his gestures, that sort of thing. Something was happening over there, is what I'm interpreting. Something that could have been a goalkeeper sub, but then it ended up not being a goalkeeper sub. It could have been that there were two balls on the pitch.
It could have been that there was a streaker. I mean, who knows? It could have been many, many things We don't know because the cameras aren't showing us the full story.
And when I looked at, you know, the, the rest of the game, I looked at the rest of the fourth quarter. I looked at a whole bunch of the third. I also looked at hopefully not this,
you can see my finder windows and stuff such. This is really great.
Okay. And I'm in the middle. So this is the game sheet from that game where I can show you that we have three goals being scored. Two, one at the end of the second quarter. There are no cards. There are no cards until a single green card is given to India. Here. Uh, oops. Here, wait. Ah, you can't see. You can't see the Spanish green card.
Sorry. There's a Spanish green card underneath this goal because it happens close in time. Yes, it might have happened at the same time. Oh, and see, now I have to go back and find out why I hadn't watched the full game, but now I'm deeply curious. Anyway, two green cards in a match like this. That's a pretty light day's work.
Okay. You're expecting a little bit more, and yes, two goals, score. In the, in the fourth quarter, but there was nothing about the game that you felt like, Ooh, the players are getting a little pissed off at each other. They're getting testy that there's something dangerous that could happen here that the umpires need to deal with.
It just isn't there.
So let's talk a little bit about why you could wish to st take a sting out of the game. Let's just keep using that phrase and why you shouldn't, because if there was no reason, I, I'm quite certain that there was a reason why Koon blues whistle and stop time because it didn't, it wasn't like he was surprised it.
As soon as he blew the free hit inside the Spanish defensive circle, as soon as he blew the free hit, he was already going up for his time. Stop. It was already happening. It was very like, yep, this is going. So I think he gets a message maybe from Amba on the other end saying, dude, there's a streak, there's a dog, there's a, A ball.
I think there's a goalkeeper sub. Okay. Cuz he immediately stops and points and says, Hey guys, there's something going on up there. Okay. Just hold on.
Because if I were Graham Reid in this moment, I would not be happy. I would not want this game to be stopped so that the team that is under pressure right here in this moment with only two minutes and 30 seconds left in the game, gets a chance to reset and calm down and talk to each other in terms of competitiveness and good competition.
That's not a wanted action from the umpire by one of the teams. So you have to be careful about why you would do something like that. Okay. I'm gonna look at the comments and touch base before I move on to the next sort of smart. And you think it was pretty smart? It was a heated moment. Okay. There was some flailing those sticks.
Yeah. But I don't think that he did it this way and I don't think he should in this moment. Okay. It's hiding on the gold symbol. Thank you. He's, everybody was reducing the cars per minute. Thank you. Thanks David. Where do you find the full game? You can't anywhere cuz you were born in class and saw the card and to go to the same team.
So you're very confused there and interested. Um, I get access to all these games because that's my agreement with the f I h and that's why I can bring you replay clips. They should be getting uploaded to watch.hockey if you've bought the subscription. If you're able to buy the subscription and go. But that's kind of all you can go.
That's my guess. That's why I'm really curious. Tristan, I think it was a card for the celebration because if that, Happened over there. The wait, wait.
That's almost cultural appropriation when you do it that poorly.
But the full match rights in UK are with BT Sport. Yep.
It's almost like you need, VPNs. Might even say contemporaneous. It's one of my favorite words. Contemporaneous Spanish Defender was asking, what about the, yeah, and that's, and he's gonna handle it very well at that moment. If the game is still safe and played in the right, spirit tense matches are thrilling for everyone.
Players and umpire are like, this is getting to the point. Thank you very much, Daniel. This is what I want you to keep in mind just because things are moving quickly and just because there's great competition and just because you as an umpire might be going, oh boy, this is really heating up. There's a difference between heating up from great hockey, great skill players doing their thing and heating up.
As in players are starting to like look at each other as stance. They're starting to look at each other. There are breakdowns that you aren't dealing with properly as an umpire. There's a difference in that climate that is, I could lose control of the game. There is nothing in this that is, they could have lost control of the game.
Coon and Amba had this well wrapped up. Everything was fine. It was just really fast and it was exciting, and that's what you want. So don't get in the way of great competition. And this is why we as umpires have to be very good. We have to have high emotional intelligence. We have to be able to read signals and listen in to what players are saying to each other and watch their body language, see how they're reacting, see how they're reacting to each other.
All the little micro-expressions, everyth. If you can properly assess where things are going,
you are going to be able to manage a game correctly.
If there was, I'm sure there was a distinct reason and who, who knows. Maybe Kun will send me a message on Facebook and say, actually no, I was doing the game. And then, you know, he and I are gonna have a difference of opinion on this because if I were India and there was no reason for that whistle to go, then I would be upset because right after goal's been scored against us, we only have two minutes and 30 seconds and we have them under the caution.
We penetrated their circle immediately, had a very close situation, a goal scoring opportunity. We're coming at you, this is our pressure. And then, and now we have to wait. For no reason. I wouldn't be happy. Okay. I hope that's really, really clear for everybody. William, in a game with loads of card in contentious moment, you can understand.
Yep. So don't just assume, don't listen. Y'all know that I'm a super big fan of Simon Mason, but don't just listen to his words cuz he doesn't have better information than we do. And we as umpires actually can maybe make better assumptions and guesses estimates as as to what can be happening on the field.
I can watch these matches and from the presentation of a stop time, the tone of the whistle, I can usually get it right as to what's about to happen and what is happening. And that's why I'm saying there's something that's happening down there
and maybe. Like the most likely culprit is a goalkeeper sub that maybe they changed their mind on. They said, ah, no, actually we're not gonna do it right now.
Yeah. Watch the body language. There you go. Godders. You have to be careful about winning teams, slowing the game to disrupt the full weight in the game. Yes, exactly. So one of the, one of the tricks that we've talked about, uh, that I mentioned on the, um, That I've, I've mentioned a few times about say, ball placement and things like that.
Is that the player, the team that is up, may start messing about with their, um, geez, I'm, I'm losing everything here. This isn't working very well at all. Off. They'll start being like, oh, umpire, umpire. Do you want the ball here, or do you want it over there? Like, I, I just, I'm just trying to help you here.
I'm just trying to be, I'm just trying to be obedient. And you're like, no, you know where it's supposed to be. Get on with it. Let's go. Being proactive about those moments when the team who is up is going to manipulate you and distract you in asking questions and things like that. Don't fall for it.
Ben's here a little late. Totally fine. Uh oh. Surprise announcements. Okay. That was a good one. I like that cuz it was, it was just really kind of tactical and it, it doesn't really matter what happened in that situation. I just wanted to raise principles again. Why do we slow things down in order to calm things down, to keep players safe?
Not to change the nature of the competitiveness and the level of intensity that the players are applying to their craft. That's what we want. Just only intervene to keep players safe.
Okay, so don't fall for it. What would you do? You gotta be proactive. You gotta be proactive. As soon as the players start, before the players start messing around, you call a quick free hit and the ball rolls away. You say, I want it right there. Let's go. Keep it moving. I want it here. Let's go. And with your, your vocalizations, you are not only sending a signal to all the players.
I'm on top of this. I understand what's happening here. We want this to keep going, but you're also putting yourself on the pathway. You have gotten into the control elevator and you're about to choose which button you're gonna press depending on what the team does. You're like, I'm ready. Are you gonna play that?
Because I've just, I've just warned you, do you want me to get off a floor two or four? Four?
And when they don't, well if, if the players are time wasting, then you give a card at this level and probably at a lot of levels. Okay. That's a very broad hypothetical though, mark. And what I prefer to do is to have. Distinct situations that we can tease out the principles and show how they get applied.
Okay, so what you actually do specifically will change depending on time of the game, what the score is, what are the players doing, all that sort of thing. Possession is not, in most situations the remedy that the, that the teams actually need. But when you're in the last two minutes, you're getting closer to where that is the case.
Okay. That's your elevator reversing the free hit. But re, like I was saying, I think you wanna reverse the free hit only when possession really is going to matter, and that is only when you have very little time left. Otherwise, the card is the best auction, the two minute green or the five minute yellow, depending on what's happened, depending on where you are in the game.
Blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay. And if you've given a warning, the card isn't surprise. Absolutely true. Okay. But I just want you to be very clear that the, it's not a progression from reversing the free hit to giving the card. Okay. Those are two different remedies. Two different tools that work in two different situations.
Okay, let's go. I have, I have seven minutes.
big announcement. Hey, do you wanna go to the Hhl? Oh, this is gonna be the wrong graphic and it still didn't work. What
do you wanna go to the Hhl? I wanna go to the Hhl. Let's go to the Hhl. So there's been a few people in the yellow group who have been mentioning, wouldn't it be neat to have a road trip? Wouldn't it be neat to have a development group? Couldn't we all just have a grand old time hanging out together? So we are in our preliminary planning phase to set out our agenda and our goals in going to the EHL together.
Wagner Stadium is going to be the site, actually, I was on the website trying to find out, there's all this you don't get, if you go to tickets, let's see if it's in events, but I don't think it is. They haven't put up anything about Easter, but we know what happens in Easter. Okay. So that's where it's gonna be.
and there will be the women's side as well, which obviously I'm very, very happy about. When I go to the news and updates, it's, it's like there's a lot of things, but I couldn't find anything specifically about what happens at Easter. It doesn't matter. We're going, okay, we're gonna really, really try to go, if you are interested in going, here's the first part, you need to be yellow.
Okay. This is gonna be a really special opportunity for me to be able to get to know all of the yellow folk in greater depth, greater just it's, we're just gonna be hanging out together and it's gonna be really fun and the activities that I'm gonna wanna plan are going to align with all the work that we've done together as a group and individually with your respective pathways when we've done debriefs of your matches and things like that.
All of this accumulates to something that I can do in this kind of in-person during match, after match, before match setting. So it's going to be. Only we are going to set a deadline as to when you need to be a yellow member in order to be able to sign up for this. And I think those two things will coincide.
So it's definitely going to be, um, yes, that's gonna be the first mandatory part. So even if you're not yellow yet, but you're planning on doing it and you wanna sign up, then what you're gonna need to do is come into the Discord. Okay? And right here in the rolls section, the Rolls channel, Ooh, that is really small.
Okay. There it is. It's near the top. It's in the information section. Go back to rolls. And you're gonna wanna click on as described. In here, the little, the little chick bursting from the egg emoji. Click on that. It's gonna give you the eh l roll and then you'll be able to access that section in the server.
Okay? We are in preliminary planning, so how long are we gonna make it? What are we gonna do together? What are we not gonna do together? Like what kind of, you know, sort of free time is there gonna be, um, how are we gonna deal with accommodation? Are we gonna be able to get a section in Wagner Stadium sort of set off just for us?
How are we dealing with ticketing, things like that. We're gonna plan this all together and organize it together. Okay, cat. Uh, who has recently made her return to the third team. So excited. She is going to be heading up this project, which I'm very happy about. Obviously I'm gonna be very involved, but she's gonna be the, the main liner in this.
So Kat, you need to go get the role too, or I'll just give it to you, whatever. Uh, and anybody else who would like to help in making the plans, please get in there. Okay. And I, I am gonna book some flights. That's just how it's gonna go. Ooh. Thank you Mark. And thank you for the reminder to hit the like button.
I appreciate that. Uh, I was gonna hit it. Um, here. Can't hang with the big dog. Stay on the porch, blow the whistle and hit the light button. Okay. All those things are very true. Ooh, road trip. Come on, Jeanette. You know you want to, no question. After dates they're out. It's just that they're not on the website.
Yes. And it's Wagner and it's Easter time when, where They're not for sale yet. Ooh. La la Wagner. I know. And it's so, it's, it's gonna be, oh, the second time I've been to the Netherlands, I'm going to the very same stadium. I'm not surprised. Yeah. Vogner, let's go. You wanna go to the Hhl? I want you to go to the Hhl.
Oh, I love it. And yes, it's gonna be a big job, but she's ready for it. And because she is on the ground, yes, she's connected with Blomendaal, but, but she's gonna be there on the ground, so we have an insider to help us. And if there's any other insiders on the ground in the area who have connections with different clubs and stuff, yes, it is very close to Shipple.
I've been there. And there you go. It's an Amil. Yes. You have a cool Yes. Cool photo. You took a vogner out of a plane. Oh, that'll be awesome. Sixth to 10th in April. Exactly. There you go. There's the link for the discord. Click the chick.
There you go. Yep. We're go. Doc . My mentor has shown up for my livestream. Isn't this exciting? And now he gets to come to Netherland and learn all about hockey. He's a sports ball fan, but we're not gonna talk about that. Is there beer Sir? Nick? Even I might drink some beer that weekend. I drink other things.
Ah, you found it on the GMS. See? There you go. It's a home game for you. Oh yes. Yes, taco. If you like to help with some organizing things, I bet Kat would love some help. It is very exciting. And you better get your passport sorted. That is right. Yes, Marcus, let's go. Let's do this. It's gonna be amazing.
Okay. We can do things like Yes. City trips. Um, yes, it's definitely time to get a yellow membership. And yes, this is what I'd love to be able to do is to be able to combine some activities. I mean, I'm gonna hit up the umpires that I know and maybe the ones that I don't and say, would you like to come and talk to my group?
Here's a specific topic I, and if we want them just to ramble about whatever they want for half an hour, we can do that too. But I would like to make this a very focused educational opportunity in the early hours of the day where we can actually pull some real. Experience a knowledge from the good folks who are on the pitch.
It'll be really great to hear from them. So yes, that is everything you need to know. Fh e3 t.com. If it doesn't direct, go to fh empires.com/fh E three T, and it's the yellow one. It's the yellow one that you want. Okay. And yes, cat. There you go. The Dutch may call it beer. I see. Now you're big. Yeah, it's probably Bish or something and I can't, Ooh, the Young Umpire challenge.
Oh, there might be something interesting we could do with them. That would be really fun. Me too. It kind of, it wasn't a hockey tour, it was a, let's make friends with the F I H tour. Me and Terry Veal biting it up. It's really fun. That's a story that I will, I will tell the full story. Okay. So if you like, I'm not sure about all this educational stuff, Keely.
That doesn't sound exciting at all. I will regal you one night with the full story of 2019. 2020, and it's a good one. Yes. And I can contact him. There you go. Skiing your ehl. Ooh. It's gonna be a tough one. It's gonna be a tough one for you. Okay. Lots of people. Yellow or red. Yes. So if you are part of a, of a association who has bought bulk yellow memberships for your people, absolutely.
You're in line for this experience. Okay. The young FHumpires can bring your kit. Oh my gosh. That could be insane. Okay, we're, we're a little bit over time, but I do wanna touch on the last announcement. Which is going to be a bit of a tough way to end a show because it is very vague. It is very fresh and new.
But I want to cast this out to you as my community members. This is really important to me. Something I've been starting to dream about for about six months now, and I'm doing a ton of re research about Web three. So have you heard about crypto? You might be screaming, oh my God, Keely. No, not you. Not NFTs, not all those things.
Yes, we don't have a choice. Friends, we didn't have a choice about the internet. We didn't have a choice about the pandemic. We don't have a choice about web three. I'm not saying all those things are equally terrible, but these are the forces that are shaping our societies and commerce as we know it is changing.
Regulation as we know it, is changing the way that we create communities and value in those communities is changing. And I see this as an opportunity for me to do with FH FHumpires, what I've always wanted to do, which is that it's not just about making umpires better, it's about making umpire's lives better.
Because I really care about the fact that so many people give so much to this sport, and we don't necessarily get back and out and we don't get to build the way that we should with some of the most amazing people in the world. So some of the things that I am interested in looking at before I get into this, okay, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm not squirreling out, okay?
Is that I'm looking at. Uh, tokens or tokenizing the way that FH Empires operates. And with those tokens, you are able to hold them as pieces of value, almost like shares in a company, but doesn't quite work that way. You can use those to do things like pay for merch or for courses or, you know, future E H L tournaments, or I didn't wanna write on myself.
That was gonna be awkward. Okay. Or any number of things. Access to. To the clip library. Okay. And the reason that I need everybody's help with this is that I am at the point where I don't have enough time to do all the things that I want to do, and I need to bring more people in. And instead of. Trying to go to a venture capital firm, , go to my bank and try to get financing.
I wanna bring the energy of the people here in this community and so many incredible, smart, talented, diverse individuals. Bring them in so that they can contribute and then they can get value and reward out of their efforts. Okay? So that's gonna be a big part of it. I'm gonna need help with developing a decentralized application that the clip library needs to become and the way that we manage this whole token economy is gonna be a big part of it.
I'm gonna need help with, um, just making decisions. So there is going to be a founder level. I didn't say yes. Why did that happen? That is very interesting. See how it said yes there. Okay, so we're gonna look at a founder level and people who have varying levels of input and ability to help me with the direction of how all this goes.
The other reason that you wanna get in on yellow, I'm telling you right now that I can see that people who have been yellow members for a long time are going to be rewarded for how much trust and investment they have put into FH Empires and into me for as long as they've been around. Okay? So my advice to you right now, without being able to tell you things that I'm not allowed to tell you, get that yellow membership soon, okay?
Because you are the people who I want to help shape the direction of this, so you will have the most. Input the most, reward, all those things. Green members will also have some share of that, all that kind of thing. And then I have either, I have other plans anyway, but I need sounding boards. I need help with this.
So again, just like we did with the other thing that's gonna work, of course it works. Now you're gonna wanna go to the Discord.
Okay? And there is another section in here. I can't see this. There is, there is another emoji reaction down at the bottom. You see that link? Hit that link. Okay. If you're interested in learning more about it, I'm not gonna drag everybody along on this journey. If you're not interested in knowing, don't worry.
We will have alternatives. If you wanna use fiat currency, which is governmental currency to to help, you know, be involved in things like that, totally fine. But if you wanna learn more about web three, you wanna learn about these plans. If you wanna help with these plans, if you have skills you think are gonna be useful, if you'd like to learn skills that could be useful and you're like, I don't know where to start, hit that link.
Get in there because we're gonna talk about all of this because I want to bring all the empires I can along with me on this journey and this is just a really cool way that we can do all that stuff. Okay? So let's see how everybody is squirreling out cuz clearly you're not talking. Everybody's flying with cards cuz that's his kit.
Fun fact doc. K and vb. A KRS is your favorite national football team. That's, we don't talk about sports while here, doc. This is my house. We talk about hockey. This is happening. Jeanette, fair and tour to Amsterdam 1999. Never to be forgotten. Well, you can always make new memories, gutters. Let's do more. I don't know.
Neils is into crypto. Of course he is. Uh, I'm gonna give crypto NFT analysis. Hey, , I wouldn't say that much. I'm learning. Okay. I'm learning along with everybody and KA is in excellent. I have re resources I'm gonna point you to because I definitely do need your help on this. Okay? So if that's your thing, if that's your jam, there's 11 people, 12 people.
Now. I can see people clicking the link right now. Get involved. Okay. Those are my big announcements.
I'm just excited. I'm just excited. Don't forget to pre-order your mission critical positioning online. Experience educational extravaganza mcc.com. That comes after the, oh no, not mcc.com, but fh empires.com/i know how to do this stuff. I really do. Where is it? It's in this scene. Okay? Don't forget, get involved with this.
I'm very excited about how that course is shaping up. So you wanna be on board with that and,
sorry, let me just do that again. I'm excited. Okay. Thanks for joining in Fun show. We had some interesting topics this, this week. If you see something on the interwebs that challenges all of us, challenges me, challenges the way we think, that raises interesting questions, please come into the Discord server.
Tag me up, gimme a link. I would love to use that on future What up Wednesday episodes, because ain't nobody got time to search for stuff anymore. I don't. Okay. I appreciate all your input today. Oh, the q and a thing, that I started. Oh, I'm bad. The q and a thing that I started. Let's, I'm gonna capture those.
Pardon me? Those questions. I've got about four of them here. Okay. Rachel, your question is excellent. I'm gonna pull that up. Let's see if I can, um, select question. So I'm gonna select this and we can pull this up next week. This will be what, up Wednesday for next week. So I'm taking a screenshot just in case it goes away somewhere.
Okay. Cuz that's excellent. Is scrolling out a Canadian phrase? You've never heard it before? No, it's a live streamer community phrase. Green card for chat. Okay. So Malcolm's got a good one. Let me bring this one up. I have no, i, I can't wait to see what this looks like on your end. Green card for chat player serves one minute, but chat has continued.
Umpire gives a yellow five for chat. Does the player return after four or five minutes? Okay. Oh, I hate that one cuz it's hard. There you go. My background is red as is the whistle. Okay. I'm not sure what's happening there. David asked me a question. Two very good questions. We will add them to next week's.
What a Wednesday. Thanks for being here. Thank you for all your support. I hope you can feel how excited and energized I am for this future where FH FHumpires is more than just me and it's way bigger than me. It's about all of us. There's no limit to what we can do here.
