Are you anticipating a breakdown foul when a tackle is made just outside the 23m line? Check out why you should in this #FeatureFriday video, where we highlight one of the hundreds of clips in the fhu3t Clip Library. Find them all: 🟢🟡🔴🏑
As soon as the ball popped past the planted defender near the centre line there was always going to be a breakdown tackle to stop this threatening run down the middle of the field. Note the exact spot where the foul occurred–just outside the 23m line, which conveniently avoids any potential upgrades to a penalty corner for the fouling team.
As the supporting umpire had a better view of the physical contact accompanying the clean take of the ball, she gave the green card not seen on the broadcast, which focused on the ball carrier brought to ground. The teamwork between the two umpires is evident in both of their body languages. This is a key takeaway for all of us who have the opportunity to work with radios: it’s still important to evidence your communication via arena umpiring. Watch these two carefully: what are they saying to each other?
