Steady state, zone 2, plod plod plod…nope, not for me. And I think we can all recognise it does virtually nothing for our umpiring performance (fight me!).
But sprinting (or whatever resembles that for me these days) to stay in front of players, to chase a ball carrier, to catch a flight? That's functional, and it's something I know is worth working on.
Calgary-based 🍁 Olympic track coach Stuart McMillan was on the Huberman Lab podcast recently to explore how our performance, mobility, and longevity can be hugely improved by skipping during our workouts.
I've already started incorporating skipping into my umpiring warm-ups and I feel more explosive and responsive right from the centre pass.
It's worth the long watch starting at the bookmark. 🤯
It's hard to capture the chaos, the energy and the emotions of a big tournament in a paragraph, but let me say this: the #FHU3T never fails to bring the goods to the EHCO Trophy and this (our third!) year was very special.
Huge thanks to everyone who took their Easter holidays in time and money to provide an amazing experience for the players, team support, and supporters of this event.
Next year, you asked for it, so we're bringing it: an intensive Umpire Coach development program where classroom and group work is supported by practical experiences on the pitch with the umpires in a high-performance environment.
Sounds intriguing? @ me, let's design it together.
